I narrowed my eyes, tilting my head as I tsked at him. “I’ll melt it.”
“I’ll make more.”
I nodded at him, ready to turn up the heat. Then I lunged, my hands hitting his shoulders with enough force to knock him backward... Only he didn’t move.
Not a single inch.
“That’s new.”
“Don’t you know how strong the fae are?”
“I do, but you’ve never shown that kind of strength. So, I suppose it’s new to me.”
Ice formed around my feet, but I dropped a handful of hellfire to the ground, melting it before it could spread. The smirk never left his face. Smug satisfaction radiated through our growing bond.
And confusion bounced back, because I was fucking baffled.
He was really godsdamned strong. But I was quick.
I lurched forward, swinging with my right hand instead of my left. He caught my fist a foot from his face, using my momentum to spin me around. With my back to his chest, I felt his quiet laughter more than I heard it.
“You can do better than that.”
I pushed against him, grinding lightly. His erection caused me to press into him harder before he released me.
“You’re enjoying this,” I teased.
“I would enjoy it more if you’d stop holding back.”
I blanked my expression, leaving only my glare to meet him. “You keep trying…”
“And you don’t.”
I rolled my tongue over my teeth. “Why do you want to fight so badly?”
“You protect us like we’re glass.”
“You could die.”
“No.”
“When we met, you could die,” I amended. “I couldn’t, can’t. Why would I risk any of you when I knew I would bounce right back?”
He pursed his lips, disappointed. “Yet, you continue to shove us out of harm’s way, knowing once the bonds were sealed we would be just as indestructible as you.”
“Suspecting and knowing are two different things.”
“We know.”
“We know because others know about their own bonds.”
“Is that not enough proof?”
I laughed coldly. “No.”
He threw another icicle, this one landing in my left thigh. My nostrils flared as I pulled it out. But instead of dropping it, I threw it back, and instantly regretted the action when it stuck in the right side of his chest.
Vaughn grinned softly, almost comforting. “Was that so hard?”
