“Cleaning up this mess ins’t your only purpose, Little Lo,” my father protested, the conviction in his voice making it almost believable.

Almost.

“I like your priorities,” I told Amelia snidely, ignoring Nate. “But I would kill my brother if he was wreaking this much havoc.”

“You don’t have a brother,” she informed me.

“You don’t know what I have,” I snarled, stepping forward as Vaughn grabbed my arm. “You don’t know who I am, or anything else about me other than my fucking name. Jack is my brother and has been since I was five. He is my family in every way that counts.”

She took a deep breath as she backed away from the bars. I wanted to laugh at how naïve that move was. If I wanted to harm her, nothing would stop me.

But I didn’t.

Lucky her.

I titled my head to the left, studying her features, her build. She didn’t appear unhealthy or emaciated… In fact; she appeared to be in great fucking shape.

“You don’t look like you did in the video Alric sent me,” I mentioned, noting her confusion.

“What video?” Nate asked, moving closer to get my attention off his mate.

“I’m not going to hurt her.” I rolled my eyes, but answered his question so he would settle down. “Alric left a USB drive with a message for me after he broke into our home. He was right outside your house while I was dealing with Kade, but we never saw him. He made sure to let me know he was everywhere.”

“He’s not here…” my father responded.

Vaughn sighed. “Not now. No, but you didn’t know that when you crossed through the portal.”

“Anahein said he’d be heading to the druids’ realm soon,” I admitted. “So we need to wrap shit up here pretty quickly.”

“You just got here,” Amelia stated matter-of-factly.

“And?” I quirked a brow, watching her straighten her back.

“That doesn’t mean anything to her, Amelia.” Nate turned to face her. “She’s not one to sit around and wait for the pieces to line up.”

She nodded, glancing from my father to my fae. “I see what you mean.”

“We’ll be getting you two out tomorrow,” Vaughn informed the pair.

“I’ll talk to you when this is over, Sloane.”

I smiled at my father. “Sure. I’ll bet you will. But be prepared, because I’ve got a lot to say, and no patience left to say it tactfully. Dad and Papi got the softer version, though I think you have more to answer for.”

Nate sighed. “I have several things to answer for.”

“You never gave her the letters, did you?” Amelia asked him as I walked away.

“No,” I answered over my shoulder, not looking back at them. “I had a handful of pictures and a lifetime of lies. You want to know why I’m so angry, Father? I doubt it has to do with wrath; that simply helps me control it.”

Early Morning

The suite was dark when I made it back, only lit by a cluster of candles. York stretched across the sofa, reading a book from... somewhere.

“Where did that come from?” I whispered, wondering where everyone else was.

“Palmer found a library, but he said there wasn’t much in it. He’s asleep, and so is Briggs. I was waiting for you, but I’ve been struggling to hold my eyes open. No sleep is finally catching up with me.”
