“Who are the other two guys who were with you?” she absently asked, making conversation.

“Jack and Grim?”

“Yes?”

I smiled. “Jack is my brother.”

“But he’s not—”

“Like me?” I shook my head. “No. He’s adopted. I usually just call him my best friend, but I’m sure you’ve heard about Nate’s son.”

She nodded. “I didn’t realize that was him, though. Who is the other guy?”

“Grim. He’s… Jack’s boyfriend? I guess that’s the easiest way to explain their relationship.”

“They’re gay?” Blaire asked, confusion creasing her brow. “I didn’t—”

“Oh. No.” I snorted at her expression. “Grim is bi. Jack is... Jack. He’s homoflexible? I’m not sure how to explain him, other than he likes what he likes.”

“They were nice.”

I scoffed. “Grim was nice? I guess he can be, but he’s usually the quiet asshole standing behind Jack and me as we make a mess.”

“No, no.” Blaire giggled. “He was friendly when I met him yesterday. Jack, too, but I got the feeling that he’s—”

“Flirty?” I covered my eyes. “Oh my gods. Did he hit on you? Don’t fall for his shit. You are totally his type.”

“He didn’t hit on me,” she admitted, shaking her head. “Flirty? Yeah. But he wasn’t out of the way.”

“He’s a fucking mess,” I muttered.

She quirked a brow. “Meaning?”

“He’s eccentric. Aloof... A little darker than the smile he wears.” I frowned. “I sound like I’m giving you a bad pitch to date my brother. I swear that’s not what I’m doing.”

“Did you want me to try selling my brother to you?” she teased. “Make me an offer. Sold. He’s yours.”

I smiled. “Novak is... Interesting. He’s deeper than I originally thought.”

She scoffed. “He’s as deep as a puddle. But he’s passionate about what he loves. I can give him that.”

“What does he love?” I inquired, curious to know her answer.

“That’s the question for them all, huh?”

I tipped my head. “If we were talking about Jack and Grim, I could answer that question without pause. But getting to know six mates while so much bullshit is happening around us is overwhelming.”

“What’s the answer?” she challenged.

“Grim loves to heal. He’s surrounded by death all the time, but he was once a doctor, saving the lives he now takes. Jack…” I sighed. “Jack is forever revolving. He loves his family, even if none of us are blood related. He loves the quiet moments between two people.”

“What do you mean?” she quietly asked, leaning closer.

“LIke... That moment after a laugh. Or when we’re finishing up brunch, and there’s a lull in the conversation, but the silence isn’t uncomfortable. I think I’d call it being content with where he’s at.”

Blaire’s right cheek rounded, though she stopped the full force of her smile. “It’s really sweet that you know all that about them.”

“It’s the only thing that’s sweet about me,” I confessed.
