Umber grabbed Jennings by the collar of his shirt, yanking him back into the drunk circle they had formed. The revenant skirted around the berserker, teasing and taunting, before Umber shoved him back in the chair with a sardonic grin and a warning that he would get their monstrous mate.
Because safety was important when there was a glass partition keeping the drunk lunatics from tumbling onto the dancefloor below us.
“I’m not going to lie,” I drawled, sipping on my roecon cocktail. “If one of them fell over the edge or down the stairs, I would laugh my ass off.”
“It’ll be Briggs,” York replied easily. “He gets clumsy when he’s had this much to drink.”
“Really?” Grim inquired. “I was going to place my bet on the fae. He was all over the place when he drank the cappa root beer in Lilk. I assumed he didn’t have much of a tolerance.”
“My money is on the revenant,”I acknowledged. “He keeps getting his feet caught under him when he tries to escape. Umber is the only thing keeping him in line.”
As I let my gaze wonder, I caught Jack grinning mischievously at Ebony. Her mate cackled loudly, his smile as bright as his platinum blonde hair. I knew they called him Sunshine, but it wasn’t until this moment that I really saw him lighting up the room. He was eccentric and playful, though at first glance, his gothic attire made him appear otherwise.
The last time we were here, we’d had to drag Novak away from Sunshine and Zolren. Jennings too. They were obnoxiously loud and troublesome when they were together.
My guys had taken a liking to visiting the shadow realm, and I enjoyed being in company with Onyx and Ebony, so it had become one of our hangouts over the last few weeks…
Once the battle was over and the bloodshed had calmed.
Onyx had been busy with that, but we did our best to help. She deserved a night off every now and then, especially after all the bullshit she’d gone through.
“What are you thinking?” Grim asked me.
“It’s nice to have a night off,” I mused.
“So not which words Jack has to say to pick the bombshell vampire up?”
I snorted at the reaper. “You’re taking her home anyway.”
“All the more reason why we should really fuck with him.”
“Get ready,” I mentally teased Jack. “Words coming in thirty seconds.”
He snapped his attention to us, a scowl twisting his lips downward. “No. No way. I’ve already caught this one.”
“Garlic,” Grim told him, chuckling at the hellsteed’s murderous glare. “I’ll double with you if you can work in holy water.”
“Ha. Ha,” Jack deadpanned. “No. You’ll double with me even if I don’t.”
I shrugged, not knowing what they were talking about as I reached out to Blaire.
“The next time Jack flirts with you, say something about silicone molds.”
“Okay,” she drawled. “Why?”
“It’s a game we play with him,” I told her. “See if he keeps flirting or if he gets confused. He has words to say too.”
York sighed. “Are you fucking with both of them now?”
“Yes,” Grim and I answered in unison.
“Ebony,” Novak sang into the microphone, making her name echo through the Den. “What’s this little blue button do?”
The reptile shifter threw her head back, chortling.
“Push it,” Sunshine encouraged, yelling over the music.
Which was all the instruction my vampire needed, because why wouldn’t he push an unknown button? He made a show of it too, holding his hand high as he plunged his index finger against the soundboard.
