Amelia

The demo is so good!!!

Art

Thank you! We’re crushing it today. Jake came with these sick vocals.

Amelia

Another text popped up.

Weston

Can we hang out today?

Amelia lifted her designer sunglasses. She might as well. There were no other plans for her day, and band practice would take hours.

Amelia

Sure, come on over.

She pushed up from the shelf and grabbed a towel from the rack nearby. She had rinsed off and put on fresh clothes when Weston was knocking on her slider.

“You don’t need to knock all the time.” She called from the bathroom, towel-drying her hair.

He slid it open. “How’s it going?” He lowered to the lounge chair and crossed a leg over his lap.

“Can’t complain.” After she twisted her hair up into a bun, she plopped on her pink comforter and asked, “What have you been up to?”

“Gaming. Hung out with the guys from the Honor Society.” He shrugged. “What about you?”

“Pissing off my mom.”

“Are you serious? I don’t know why you’re always hard on them.”

“I’m not.” Her nostrils flared. It was like him to assume she was the problem in their relationship.

“What was it this time?”

“I’m going to a music festival this weekend. Lauren’s not happy about it.”

“A rave?”

“Tomato tomato.”

He brushed his blond hair back. “With Art.”

“And Madisson, Reyna, and Max.”

He looked around the room, his eyes stopping at the pictures on her dresser. There were a few photos of them together in coordinated outfits that she hadn’t taken down.

“You’re going to dress up?” His words were laced with accusation.

“Of course I’m dressing up.”

He sighed dejectedly. “You’re going to dress up with him.”

“I mean, we haven’t discussed it yet.”
