“You know, you're incredibly stubborn, Little Witch.”
“And you're incredibly bossy.”
His hands tighten on the wheel before he finally lets go.
“You infuriate me.”
“You sabotaged my plumbing.”
“You destroyed my tomatoes.”
“You started it. You put worms in my shower!”
“And you sent me ninety-seven anchovy pizzas.”
“Anchovy, onion, garlic, and pickle.”
His mouth twitches.
I smile.
Then he takes my hand and his fingers turn beneath mine. Our palms meet.
The joking stops.
“I want you. But I can't promise you anything, Sweet.”
Something about that hurts. Still, I don't pull away. I’m a grown ass woman, I can have a one night stand if I want. And I want this. I want him.
Very much.
“I didn't ask you to.”
“You should.”
“Maybe.”
His thumb slowly traces my palm.
Golden sparks flicker over my skin. Damian watches them.
“Why did you come find me tonight?”
I look at him.
“Because I have good news and I wanted to share it with someone. Someone who matters,” I whisper.
“And you thought of me?”
I nod.
His expression softens, and he gestures for me to tell him my news. So, I do.
“I, um, I got fully booked for Halloween.”
His face changes.
“What?”
