“Get to the fucking point,” Giuliano snaps.
“The point is I’ve moved in and I’m staying with her. She had his number saved under another name, I got to her phone and when he texted her and then called, I answered.”
They stare at me as they listen, you could hear a pin drop.
“You answered?”
“Yeah.”
“What did you say?”
My teeth catch my bottom lip. “I told him to come and get his girl before I fuck her.”
Amusement flashes across their faces.
“Taking one for the team?”
I roll my eyes. “I’m not in the mood for you fucking idiots today, can we just stick to what’s important here.”
Enrico goes back to his list. “So at the very same time that Anna was getting a call, Giuliano and Francesca were in Capri.” He turns his attention to Giuliano. “And explain to us how that went down.”
“We….” Giuliano thinks for a moment. “We were in Capri, we were staying on land for the night in a villa, and then at dinner….”
“Where did you have dinner?” Enrico interrupts.
“Da Paolino.”
“Was there anyone there that you thought was suspicious or did anything happen that would make you think anything was off?”
“Not a thing.”
“What happened then?”
“We had a few drinks, had dinner, got home and Val called to tell me that Carlo had called Anna.” He shrugs. “Got off the phone and something just felt off, you know?
We all listen intently.
“I had this feeling that him calling Anna felt like a smoke screen.”
“What made you think that?”
“Because he knows Val’s one and only weakness.”
“Anna,” Enrico replies.
“Anna is not my fucking weakness,” I snap. “Why do you all think I’m obsessed with Anna?”
“Because you are.”
“Fuck. Off.” I roll my eyes. “She is the last person on my obsession list.”
“There’s a list now?” They all chuckle,
“Anyway, he knows how we work; he knows us, he would be banking on us having Anna’s phone tapped,” Giuliano continues.
“And?” Enrico continues his note-taking. “What then?”
“After Val called me my mind was spinning. Something wasn’t sitting right. Why after eight weeks? What would he be distracting us from? Is something about to go down, is he about to move in on Sicily? That’s when I noticed that Francesca had a gift bag from dinner.”
