My breath catches. House arrest means he’s out but can’t leave his house without returning to jail. I’m not a key witness since my memory is gone. He has no reason to come after me except to finish his revenge.

To finish what he started. It couldn’t be worth it. I swallow but straighten.

“I’ll stay close to my guys then.” I look up into his warm eyes. “Thank you, Coach.”

He nods and moves away, clapping and yelling at the defensive players on the field.

Should I tell the guys? It’s not for sure that Zach will get out. Tanner’s been in the hospital this week. After a couple surgeries for some of the deeper stab wounds, he’s been fighting an infection from the knife Penny used.

I glance up at the stands. Penny sits beside Nat, Izzy, and Vicky like nothing has changed, except Will is behind her, and Kenz sits with them instead of our usual spot at the top of the bleachers. The cheerleaders are busy doing cheers. Everything seems so fucking normal compared to last weekend.

“Here.” Luke holds out a cup of water. “You look like you need it.”

I take it and sip a little. “Thank you.”

He nods, but keeps his gaze on the field where the other team is third and six. Our defense is holding them in place as best they can. It’s fourth quarter and we’re ahead by eight. As long as we keep them from scoring, we’ve won.

I glance back at our parents in the stands. Cameron leans in to say something to my mom, and she smiles like I’ve never seen her smile before. My brow furrows.

Wait a minute. Is she into him?

The only guy I’ve ever seen my mom go on a date with was Mr. Wick, and that was weird. I kind of suspect she knew he had ulterior motives that night. But Eli’s dad? Who just filed for divorce? The ink isn’t even dry, but according to Eli, the marriage has been over for years now.

“What’s wrong?” Luke glances at me and then tries to follow my gaze.

I return my attention to the field. “Nothing.”

“Is Cameron hitting on your mom?” Luke sounds perplexed.

“Right? It’s not just me?” I turn and watch Mom put her hand on Cameron’s arm and lean in to say something.

“No, princess. Not just you.” Luke shakes his head. “How long has it been since your dad left?”

I blow out a breath. “A long time. But Eli’s dad?”

Luke chuckles, and his pale blue eyes meet mine. “You guys could be stepsiblings. He could become your brother.”

“Ew, no, take that back.” I frown at them sitting so close together. A shudder ripples through me.

Luke shrugs and smirks. “It would make things easier for us. You living at Eli’s? Might as well just all move in at that point.”

“Stop distracting the girl, Foster.” That’s Coach Martin, not Assistant Coach Turner.

Luke turns to him and nods. “Of course, Coach.”

Luke returns to the others. Is he telling them what I suspect? My cheeks grow warm. I’m sure it’s nothing. Mom just knows Cameron from high school. Just because two people are single it doesn’t mean they’ll get together.

I try to put it out of my mind as the clock ticks down on the game. When the final buzzer goes off, we’ve won.

The guys are pumped. Jack lifts me into the air and plants a kiss on my lips before setting me down and heading into the locker room with the others. I’m still catching my bearings when Ashley walks up behind me.

“Hey,” she says.

I straighten, wondering what she needs from me. We haven’t really talked since the Homecoming game. There’s been no need.

“Party’s at Jason’s tonight. You and the guys should come.” Ashley turns to watch the bleachers empty.

I turn with her. “I think we’re planning on it.”
