My cheeks heat as I imagine all the trouble we could get up to back here.
Caden takes the seat next to me. “We’re not going directly to the dance, little nympho.”
My brow furrows. “Where are we going?”
The others spread out on the long bench seats and give me looks that make me press my thighs together against the ache they cause.
Jack smirks. “It’s our first date with all of us, sweetheart. We’re going to do it right.”
CHAPTER 10
The Pre-Game
Harper
I don’t know what I pictured as a date with the horsemen, but at least the restaurant should be open. The restaurant we pull in front of looks like it’s closed. All the tables are empty even though it’s Saturday at dinnertime.
Caden holds my hand on his lap as the others step out onto the sidewalk. Maybe there’s another restaurant nearby that’s open? Maybe this is just the easiest place to get out?
“Come on, little nympho.” Caden helps lift me from the seat and Eli offers me his hand to guide me onto the sidewalk next to them. When I look around, there isn’t another restaurant nearby.
I lean in to Eli and say, “Is this place closed?”
“Not for us, kitten.” Eli leads me forward, following after the others. Jack holds the door open, and the others let me pass. Okay, so maybe we should let the staff know their closed sign is showing. The lighting is dim and there’s only one table with candles on it. Soft orchestral music fills the air, and I recognize the song as “Sweet” by Hozier.
Eli leads me over to the table and holds out a chair for me. I turn to look at the others.
“What is this?” I mean this is weird. We’re the only ones in here. We haven’t even seen any staff yet, and we’re seating ourselves at the only set table.
Caden steps up close to me. “Perks of being wealthy. I bought out the place for the night. Figured we’d want somewhere we wouldn’t be interrupted or have to worry that someone will steal you away from us.”
His green eyes are warm. I glance around again. This place seats a lot of people. To buy it out for an evening must have cost a small fortune. I hate to tell him I would have been happy with burgers and fries from a drive through, but the fact he thought of making us all comfortable makes my heart pound a little harder.
“You did this for me?” I touch my heart.
“We all did,” he says. “We want you all to ourselves for this part of the evening.”
My cheeks flush, but I lower into the chair, and Eli helps me scoot into the table. Nico sits to my left and Jack is on my right.
The table is round so I can see all of them before me. It’s covered in a white tablecloth. Water goblets are filled and placed above a white plate with gold-plated utensils, set perfectly. I smooth a hand over my skirt. I’m not sure which fork or spoon to use, but I remember hearing to start from the outside and work in, so that’s what I’m going with.
A server comes out from a door with a tray of drinks. She rounds the table, setting a slender champagne glass beside our water goblets. Is that actually champagne or something non-alcoholic? We’re minors so it would be odd to be served, but Caden has money. I don’t know if that gives him a free pass when it comes to laws.
When she returns to the kitchen without giving me a menu, I turn to look at Caden.
He smiles at my confused look. “Ordered ahead. Don’t worry. You’ll like it.”
I glance toward the kitchen. This is probably the fanciest place I’ve ever been. It would have been nice to look through the menu, but I’m sure the prices would have made me long for the diner with Rebecca Forester, a table of horny football players, and bitchy girls wanting a piece of my men.
Eli clears his throat and I turn his way, raising an eyebrow. “We’re also hoping this date won’t be interrupted like yours and mine was.”
“At least you got a date,” Caden grumbles.
“Both you and Jack get her in your beds.” Nico rolls his eyes. “There’s plenty of time to have one-on-one dates with everyone.”
“Says the guy that took her for burgers and shakes and then to watch meteorites.” Jack leans back in his chair and straightens his cuffs. He looks like a mob boss.
“It was romantic.” Nico smiles at me. “I was a perfect gentleman.”
