Hallowed Bones

I gasp for breath, trying to catch a single lungful of air that doesn’t seem to want to come to me through the fog of desire. “I don’t think we should be—”

“No.”

His bark of denial shuts me up. Reyes shakes his head, dark curls sliding across the front of his forehead. Shadows linger on his skin, gliding down the contours of his cheeks and over my own hands where they lock against his shoulders.

“Stop thinking.” He nuzzles the side of my throat, causing tingles to race through my skin. “Thinking about shit has gotten us nowhere. What has it done for us? Made us second-guess our choices. Made us regret. Made us grieve. No.” He repeats the word again with more vehemence than before.

Reyes pulls his head away from my throat, and I barely stop the needy whimper that escapes me. Eyes the color of pine needles in shadow, gleaming with the sudden and unmistakable need, bore into me. The color, usually cool and quiet, now burns with an intensity that reflects the very same want that I feel. Flecks of gold catch on his skin, on mine, and then are gone.

Firelight?

Frowning, I reach for him, lifting my hand to where those sparks had once been. The second my fingertip draws near, they appear again. Sparking and dancing atop my skin and down my finger. The little lights glow with warmth, but when they touch me, it doesn’t hurt.

Reyes’s breath catches in his chest and draws my attention back to his face. He sees the sparks now, the stormy green of his gaze locked on to the spiraling dots of light. He watches them for a moment more. When his eyes meet mine, pupils dilating with desire, I know I’m not going to stop him.

I want to drink him down, part my lips, unhinge my jaw, and swallow him whole.

Reyes shifts closer, his cock like hard steel pressing between us. A temptation and a warning. One of his thumbs moves to my mouth, tracing a path over my lower lip, tugging it down slightly. The hunger to bite him roars to the surface, and this time, I don’t resist it.

Setting my teeth against his wayward thumb, I close my mouth around the digit and let him feel my teeth. A masculine groan rumbles up his chest as a burst of salt and musk floods my tongue. The sparkling lights grow brighter, circling us.

“Hungry, Haven?” Reyes breathes the question, but doesn’t give me time to answer it. “I should’ve had you spread out under me weeks ago.”

Panting, I grab at the hem of his shirt, dragging it upward. The need to feel his skin against mine is overwhelming. Just as the fabric reaches above the hard ridges of his flexing abdomen, he captures my hand and then my other and brings them both behind my back, pinning them there with just one of his.

“Not so fast.” His words are hot against my skin as he leans in and nips my bottom lip hard enough to sting. “If you touch me right now, I’m afraid this might all be over before I’m ready to let you go.”

“You’ll let me go if I tell you to,” I remind him as my breasts swell even more. More heat builds in the pit of my stomach. My pussy clenches with the desire to have something fill it, to have him inside of me. Touch. Feel. Taste. I want it all—need it more than I need air to breathe.

The lights flicker now, spinning in fast circles around our bodies, moving over each limb and then around us as a whole. I’m losing track of them, though, with all the hard, male body taking up most of my attention.

“Maybe,” Reyes offers, lips twitching in amusement. “Or maybe I’ll lock you up and throw away the key.” He grips my thigh and jerks it up higher around his waist. Then he lifts his hips and presses his flannel-clad cock against my core, thick and hard and impossible to miss.

“You feel that?” he snarls, grinding just enough to make me gasp. It’s not enough. “This is what you do to me. Every time you walk away. Every time you bend or speak or—” He groans at the same time that I do. “Just your existence does this to me.”

The confession makes me buck my hips, rubbing myself like a cat in heat against the one thing I know will cure the ache in me. Reyes.

Wetness drips between my thighs, soaking into the thin fabric of my panties and the sleep shorts I’m wearing. The haunting hunger that begs for release bubbles up inside of me, unsated and impatient.

“But I’m not the only one, am I?” Reyes’s mouth hovers over my own, his words barely above a whisper as he drags his lips back and forth—teasing me with what I could have if he’d only. Give. It. To. Me.

It takes me a moment to push back the fog of lust and absorb what he’s saying. I blink up at him. “What?”

Reyes stares down at me, his face a mask of solemnity. “I’m not the only one who wants you this way,” he tells me. “You know it, don’t you? How much they want you too?”

My rib cage shrinks around my heart, tightening the prison that surrounds the organ until it threatens to burst. “I…” I don’t know what to say. What I’m allowed to want and what I actually want are two very different things.

But I can’t deny the truth to Reyes’s words. Lyall’s kiss had told me as much. He, at least, wants me as bad as I want them. Cameron too, for all his quiet nature and calm. And Ezra … broody, moody, frustrating, and evasive Ezra.

Yes, damn it. I want them. All of them. If that makes me fucked up, then that’s what I am. But I never thought I was anything else.

“What do you think of that?” Reyes asks when I’ve still yet to respond.

I lower my lashes as I scan his face. From the hard jut of his jaw to the strong column of his throat. Scars peek out of the collar of his shirt, enticing me to delve deeper, to see what other old hurts he’s hiding. I want to peel him apart and find out everything about the man that showed up in my dream one night and hasn’t left me alone since.

“You told me to stop thinking,” I say quietly. “Didn’t you?”

We could get into the complications of what it means to have not one or two, but four men vying for my attention. Now isn’t the time, however. Now I just want what he promised. I want to stop fucking thinking for once and let pleasure take the wheel.
