“Dude, again with the overload of information.”

His lips tip up in an almost there smile. I want to cheer, but I tamp down my excitement. The grumpy giant would retreat into his shell if he noticed my excitement. “I can’t catch a sixteen-year-old boy.”

“Not if you don’t try.”

“I’m six-foot-six and weigh 260.” He scowls. “Maybe 265.”

My eyes widen. “No wonder you remind me of a tank.”

I’m joking. He’s not a tank. He’s a wall of muscle I’d love to get my hands on.

He pats my shoulder. “Not a tank. You’re pint-sized.”

I gasp. “I’ll have you know I’m fun-sized.”

“Still tiny.”

I fist my hands on my hips and glare at him. “Ninety percent of the population is tiny compared to you.”

He shrugs. “My job is to absorb contact and clear running lanes.”

I blink up at him. “I have no idea what those words mean.”

“Not a football fan?”

“I love observing men in tight pants scurry around a field showing off their rearends but the game itself?” My nose wrinkles. “Not so much.”

He growls.

“What?”

He clears his throat. “Nothing.”

Jace races toward us with the rest of the students. I shoo Brock away. “You can go now.”

“I’m watching Jace.”

“Parents don’t have to stay.”

“I’m aware.”

“And yet here you are.”

“Someone has to make sure you're doing your job.”

I grin. “And how am I doing?”

He looks out at his son and his face softens. My entire body warms. How would it feel to have that look aimed my way? I would do crazy things to make that happen. But would Brock be interested? Could I tempt Mr. Control?

“Jace’s happy.”

“And that’s a good thing?”

“Better than good.” He marches away before I have a chance to respond. Which is probably a good thing. Since I have no response. He’s totally thrown me. This gruff man is a great, big marshmallow for his son. As he should be.

“Okey Dokey, my future surfing stars! Are you ready to meet some green waves?”

Danny raises his hand. “What are green waves?”
