“The fuck?” Killian shot to his feet. Callum followed, their bodies stiffening.

And then came an odd metallic clinking sound, rhythmic, like glass rattling together. My gaze slid across my shithole. The broken shards scattered across the floor—Lucien’s handiwork from one of my meltdowns—started to vibrate.

“Maybe one of the teen pups is pulling another prank,” Bellatrix said. “Can anyone smell anything?”

I took a deep breath just as she said that.

And the world stopped turning, because of the most intoxicating scent in the whole universe. I moaned and inhaled greedily, filling every inch of my lungs, breathing again after three weeks.

The reinforced steel doors fractured inward and a chill rushed over me.

And I almost choked on my own tongue. The color bled out of me like a candle snuffed, pure shock morphing my face.

She stood in the ruined doorway on hind legs.

The most beautiful thing I had ever fucking seen and would ever see. My shock turned into more shock, because her blue eyes, both now looking like pieces of a glowing sky, widened as they focused on me.

Shuddering, shivering, I staggered upright with my mouth open like a stupid fish out of water, but like a fish, nothing came out. I was speechless, which was something I never was. My friends might as well have ceased to exist.

I was too busy letting the thought sink in. Yvaine is a lycan!

Those mesmerizing eyes that had trapped some sky like they needed even more reasons to be my universe, bounced from mine to the people crowding the space.

A low, warning growl rolled from her chest, the concrete walls echoing it, and it traveled straight to my balls.

Murder was written on her face, probably because of the number of females. Little did she know I couldn’t care less; they could stand there naked and I wouldn’t notice. I’d turn the other way.

“Invader!” Claudia shrieked and charged, but I didn’t have time to warn her, too busy gawking at another lycan.

I watched, stupefied, as this elegant creature moved like a ballerina and rammed Claudia into the wall, knocking over a table in the process. Takeout boxes flew through the air, barbecue sauce raining over Claudia. A chicken wing fell on her head like a crown.

Oh man. I was in love all over again.

“Yvaine?” I croaked, her aura beckoning me.

Her glowing eyes lit up even more, watching my every move. My chest tightened when I spotted the humongous mark on her neck. That’s right. Mine.

“Ruby,” she corrected me.

I shivered at how delicate her voice was. “Ruby…” I said in awe. “Hi.”

She smiled, and her eyes curved into crescent-moon slits above her cute cheeks. Ah, my heart forgot how to beat and I thought I’d die right there at her paws…until my face morphed murderously.

“Everyone. Leave.” I didn’t need a fucking audience and I hated that their attention was on this precious creature. “Killian, let me out.”

“But—” Killian tried.

“Now.” My Alpha voice bent him to my will, my fangs poking out. Yeah, I was an asshole. Blah, blah.

As everyone fled, quieter than ghosts, I shuffled toward her.

Her scent was Yvaine’s, but richer and all honey. I struggled to maintain my composure with Lucien headbutting at the cage in my mind. I ignored him. “Go away. My turn.”

I cleared my dry throat, trying to remember how to make words work again. “You can’t be real.”

She tilted her head. “Why not?”

“You just can’t be,” I said softly.
