“And the kind of calves you love!” Pamela said.

Uncle Knox patted Uncle Clyde’s shoulder. “I can’t wait for Pamela to find her mate.”

“She won’t. Right, baby carrot?” Clyde grinned at his daughter. For someone who had been in a high-security prison, he had quite the arsenal of sweet nicknames for the girls in his life.

Pamela rolled her eyes. “Sure, Dad, I’ll reject my mate and live with you forever, even after Mom leaves you for never cleaning the house.”

A roar of laughter swelled inside my room.

“Yvaine.” Uncle Knox pointed toward the door. “Go see your mate.”

I chewed on my lower lip.

“He’s talking to Gregory and Angus,” Aunt Layla reported from her surveillance post. “No rush.”

“Or tell him to get lost,” Lachlan mumbled around his third bowl of stew. “You should ignore him as much as possible.”

“Lachlan,” Grandpa warned.

“I agree. Make him work for it.” Sarah glared at her mate. “Your uncle certainly didn’t!”

“You were getting married!” Uncle Knox huffed. “What was I supposed to do?”

“You punched my fiancé at the altar and said my gown looked like meringue.” Sarah shook her head. “Stole a piece of wedding cake, too!”

Uncle Knox smirked, a glint in his eyes.

“The lycan’s coming up the stairs!” Layla shouted.

Every head turned.

Right on cue, my heart started sprinting and my wolf hopped up and down.

Then came the knock.

CHAPTER THIRTEEN

YVAINE

After Logan tapped the door twice, his scent invaded my lungs. Everyone in the room froze.

Layla and Pamela giggled, Uncle Clyde sipped his beer, and Lachlan glanced at me, eyes shifting between my hands twisting in my lap and my pale face. “I’ll talk to him.”

“No!” I bolted up, almost stumbling. That just made my family snicker. “Glad to be your source of entertainment.” I smoothed my yellow cardigan and took a calming breath.

My cousin shot me a smirk. “Can I join you guys?”

“Pamela, sit back down,” Uncle Clyde said.

Grandma had the audacity to scold me. “Yvaine, hurry up! Don’t make the Hollywood star wait!”

“Rionnag, if you mate tonight, don’t forget that human protections aren’t effective with werewolves,” Uncle Knox said.

“Let alone with lycans!” Sarah added from the armrest of Uncle Knox’s seat.

“Yeah, you are too young to bake pups, baby girl.”

Moon Goddess, please teleport me to a dimension where my family is quieter.
