With a smile, my arms tightened around her, lifting her effortlessly so I didn’t have to bend. Not that she was short—I didn’t have to break my neck with her, after all—and she was so light that I could pick her up and carry her around. If it were up to me, she’d never leave my hold.

My mouth found hers and we kissed until she had to steal a breath, her little fists tangled in my hair and T-shirt so tightly, her knuckles turned white. For a second, I imagined those little hands around my—

Shut the fuck up.

My lips drifted to her neck, placing a soft nibble, a lingering kiss. A shudder ripped through me at her startled moan, so I bit down hard enough to leave the faintest bruise, then licked the spot.

Her fingers tugged my hair until I looked back up. “What is it?” I murmured, my eyes half-lidded.

“Kiss me, Logan.”

I grinned. “I am kissing you.”

I left a trail of kisses around her mouth. Every time she leaned in, I inched away. She made the cutest sound of protest and ended up kissing my nose by mistake.

My chuckle dimmed when her hands framed my face. Those impossible blue eyes captured mine, a tiny pout tugging at her lips.

With a defeated sigh, I let her do whatever she wanted.

The instant our lips connected, every intention of behaving disintegrated.

Patience and delicacy flew off the balcony when her tongue brushed my upper lip, and coaxed me deeper. She caught my tongue, sucking it into her mouth, and her fingers slid into my hair and gave an experimental tug at the back of my head.

With her lips exploring mine, my hand drifted down her spine, tracing each vertebra until it settled at the small of her back. I marveled at how much my palm could cover.

A quiet moan blended with the wind as it slipped lower, fingertips close to her ass. I grunted, licking the inside of her mouth.

I was about five seconds away from carrying her into the forest and begging to bury my face between her thighs when a badly timed presence approached behind me. Dominance rolled off the newcomer in heavy waves, along with aggression. Not enough to make me stop kissing my sweet mate, though.

“Yvaine.”

The single word carried command. Bunny Doc stiffened before wriggling in my arms like a trapped eel. She pushed her hair away from her face and looked up at me with unmistakable panic.

I sighed and set her down, discreetly adjusting myself inside my shorts.

Eventually, I looked at the newcomer. Dark eyes already fixed on me, hazel hair, and familiar features—my future father-in-law. Which also meant…this was the Comet Alpha and my father’s greatest rival. And judging by the way he had his arms crossed, the dislike hadn’t faded. A rivalry between Alphas wasn’t something curable, it was deliberate.

Great, he hates me already. I’d never cared about impressing anyone, but this was my mate’s father, and I knew she wanted this weekend to go well.

But shit, she never ran out of family! So far I’d met half of Scotland and enough relatives to start another wereball league. Yvaine also mentioned a future trip to Italy to meet some childhood friends and an extended family. Of course she has another one.

“So, this is him.” The Comet Alpha gave me a long, critical once-over. “He’s blond.”

With a sigh, I braced myself to endure another relative. My new motto was don’t attack first, but if they do, defend yourself like you started it.

Future father-in-law or not, his wounds could always heal.

YVAINE

How had I not heard Dad coming?

Finding us in that position was the worst possible timing. I tried to catch my breath, willing the extra blood to leave my cheeks before looking up.

Dad stood with his arms folded, feet planted shoulder-width apart. Oh no.

His narrowed gaze traveled over the tattoos on Logan’s forearms and the ones sticking out of his shirt. At least Dad couldn’t judge that, since he possibly had more than Logan. Pack tattoos of his lineage, and full constellations of the night sky from the day he was born, covered his arms and legs.

“Good ink, kid.” That sounded approving. “Now remove your arms from my pup before I do it myself and introduce your face to the wall.”
