I busied myself opening one of the boxes, but obviously I was listening.
I was nosy, not deaf.
“Yeah, we’re here now,” Sol said, glancing around the room. “We’re getting everything inside.”
She paused.
Her eyebrows pulled together.
“What?”
I stopped messing with the box.
Sol straightened.
“Rome, no.”
Oh, shit.
I turned my head.
“You’ve already done enough,” she continued. “Seriously. I’ll figure it out. We’re okay.”
I stared at her.
Figure what out?
Sol listened for another few seconds.
“No. I appreciate it, but—”
I walked over.
She immediately turned away from me.
That told me everything I needed to know.
“What he talking about?” I whispered.
Sol waved me off.
“Rome, I said—”
I snatched the phone.
“Zari!”
I put it to my ear.
“Hello?”
There was a brief silence.
Then Rome’s deep voice came through the speaker.
“Zari?”
“Yeah, it’s me. What you trying to give her?”
