Sol reached for the phone.

I slapped her hand away.

“Furniture money,” Rome said, sounding halfway amused already. “I told her I put some money in her account so she could get whatever they need for the house.”

My eyes widened.

I looked at Sol.

This fool was turning down furniture money?

I put the phone back to my ear.

“Send it.”

“Zari!” Sol hissed.

I turned away from her.

“We’re actually on our way to the furniture store right now.”

“We are not!”

I held one finger up in her face.

Rome laughed quietly through the phone.

“I already deposited it.”

“Perfect. Thank you for your contribution to the Eastview Restoration Project. We appreciate your sponsorship.”

“Zari, give me my phone.”

I dodged Sol when she reached for it again.

“Don’t worry, Rome. I’m gonna make sure she spends it because apparently she woke up today wanting to struggle recreationally.”

Rome laughed louder.

“That’s exactly why I called.”

“See? We understand each other. Have a good day.”

“Wait—”

I hung up.

Sol stared at me.

I calmly placed her phone back on the counter.

“What?”

Her mouth dropped open.

“Why would you do that?”

“Because you tripping.”
