“I did? In the dream, I mean?” He was beginning to wonder…

“Yes. You looked like you wanted to ravish me in my sleep.”

He finally caught on, and he threw an arm around her waist and pulled her closer.

“Good one. You had me going for a minute there.”

“I don’t know what you’re talking about,” she teased, feigning innocence.

“That was no dream. I did all those things while I was waiting for you to wake up.”

“Why didn’t you keep going?”

“I was trying to be patient, seeing as we just made love a few hours ago.”

“Patience is overrated.” With that, she reached between them and cupped him over his boxer briefs.

“I’m glad we agree,” he said and rolled her over on top of him.

After making love that morning, they’d gone on to spend the next two days and nights together. In between all the sex, they walked the beach, swam in the pool, took a late-night hot tub, talked, laughed, and generally enjoyed each other’s company. They separated for a couple of hours each afternoon so Callie could write and he could pretend to do some work, but he couldn’t wait until they came back together again.

They also ate every meal together, taking turns cooking until they’d run out of food, and finally, they were forced to go out to dinner or starve.

It was at the restaurant that she told him about Quinn coming to visit.

“That was kind of short notice, don’t you think?” he said, realizing his mistake right after he said it.

“You mean like when Miranda came to visit?” she replied pointedly.

“You’re right. Sorry.”

“She’ll only be here for a few days. Then she’s flying to L.A. to visit her cousin.”

He pushed away his selfish thoughts and spent the rest of the time asking questions about Quinn.

But Callie wasn’t fooled, and on the drive home, she said, “What’s wrong?”

“Nothing.”

“You’ve hardly said a word since we left the restaurant.”

He glanced over at her and sighed. Ever since they’d shared their secrets, he couldn’t seem to keep anything from her. “It’s stupid.”

“Try me.”

“I’m going to miss you while you’re with Quinn.”

She smiled big. “You are?”

“Um-hmm. I might not be able to sleep without you next to me.”

She laughed. “We haven’t exactly slept much.”

“You know what I mean.”

“We still have tonight and after she leaves.”

Neither of them had talked much about going home even though it was lurking in the background. Everything had been so wonderful the last bunch of days, and it was hard to think about returning to his “real life.” But soon enough, he’d be up to his eyeballs in legal documents and meetings, and she’d be busy too, and they’d have to make a concerted effort to see each other. Here, they lived right next door. Hell, they’d practically moved in together.
