Avery felt spoiled. Last night, she’d had the best orgasm of her life while still dressed, and this morning, she’d been served breakfast by the hot guy who’d given her said orgasm.
Afterward they’d had a minor disagreement over Jax driving her to Carl’s house.
“My ankle feels so much better now. Look,” she said as she walked back and forth across his living room floor. She wasn’t lying, but so much better might have been a bit of an exaggeration. The swelling had gone down, and she could walk, but her ankle still felt sore and tender.
“Why won’t you let me drive you?”
“It’s bad enough that you have to drive me home this morning. People will talk.”
He sighed.
“Besides, I’m sure you have more important things to do than chauffeur me around.”
He held up his hands. “Fine, I won’t drive you to your dad’s, but only if you promise to come over for dessert tonight.”
“Dessert meaning pumpkin pie or dessert meaning…” She wriggled her brows, and he laughed.
“Unfortunately, just the pie. Cody and Dakota will be here too.”
She’d known that, but it served as a stark reminder of their precarious situation. Somehow she was supposed to hide her feelings for Jax from his brother and her best friend.
“Are you sure it’s a good idea for me to come?”
“Of course. Dakota will want you to, and so will my annoying brother.”
“What about his annoying big brother?” she teased.
He crossed the living room in two strides, slid his arms around her waist, and pulled her up against his chest. “I want you here too.”
For someone so reserved, he slayed her with his simple yet meaningful statement.
Then, as if his words weren’t enough, he dipped his head down and captured her lips in a searing kiss. She twined her arms around his neck and pulled him closer, loving the feel of his hard, strong body next to hers. God, how she wanted this man.
He gently parted her lips and inserted his tongue, which tasted of butter, syrup, and bacon—three of her favorites. He tugged her bottom lip between his teeth, and she moaned. It was almost sinful how aroused she became from just one kiss.
Just when she was really getting into it, he broke the kiss. “So, is that a yes?”
“What was the question again?”
He laughed.
“Yes. I’ll come for dessert,” she said, smiling up at him. “But we have to be on our best behavior. No funny business.”
“It’ll be hard, but I can handle it.” He glanced down at the bulge in his jeans.
Her gaze went there too, and she licked her lips, recalling what she’d done to him last night. She was looking forward to doing it again, but not only that. The next time they got together, she wanted to go all the way…
“Ahem,” Jax said.
She raised her eyes and saw his amused expression.
“Whatcha thinking about?”
“Never mind. We should probably corroborate our story for later.”
He put some space between them but kept his hands planted on her hips. “You fell on the trail, called me for help, and I brought you here. End of story.”
