The tightness in my chest eases ever so slightly. Today really is his lucky day.
I lock the phone and lift my gaze to meet his.
“So,” I say evenly, “how many times have you slept with Aurora?”
His entire body jerks. Fresh tears spill down his bruised cheeks as he starts crying again.
“P-Please… I’m sorry…”
I sigh. “Stop crying. You’re getting blood all over my damn seats.”
He stiffens, hurriedly wiping at his face with trembling hands before forcing himself to sit still. “I’m… I’m sorry.”
“That wasn’t my question.”
I lean back against the seat, keeping my eyes fixed on him.
His throat bobs. “None. I’ve never slept with her.”
A humorless smile tugs at the corner of my mouth. “Luca, you should know better than to lie to me. The people who lie to me rarely live long enough to see another sunrise.”
His face drains of what little color remains. “I’m not lying.” His voice cracks with desperation. “I swear I’m telling the truth.”
He begins speaking so quickly the words nearly tumble over one another.
“We’ve only kissed. That’s all. We’ve fooled around a little, but it never went further than kissing.”
His breathing grows ragged. “She wouldn’t let me. She always said she wanted to save herself for marriage.”
A dark satisfaction settles in my chest. My sunshine is saving herself. For marriage. For me. No other man will ever have her. She's mine.
“What about video calls?”
He frowns in confusion. “What?”
“Video sex.”
His eyes widen. “No.”
I raise an eyebrow. “Think it through before you answer.”
“I suggested it before.” He nods frantically. “A couple of times, actually. But she always said no.”
His gaze flickers nervously toward the phone still resting in my hand. “I was shocked when she called today.”
Interesting.
Oh. A slow smile curves my lips. So my little Sunshine wants to explore. She’ll have every opportunity to satisfy that curiosity. With me.
I hand him the phone, meeting Luca’s frightened eyes again.
“You touched what belongs to me.”
He blinks, confusion replacing his fear for only a moment before realization dawns. “I didn’t know.”
His voice rises in panic. “I swear, I didn’t know. I thought you were marrying Aurora’s sister. I had no idea—”
“Shut up.”
