King of Obsession

A maid enters hesitantly, looking nervous. “I’m so sorry to disturb you, Miss Aurora. I came to deliver your dresses.”

I blink through my tears, confused. “What dresses?”

The maid disappears for only a moment before returning with three others. Each of them carries a large black garment bag.

I frown. “What is all this?”

They carefully lay the garment bags across the foot of my bed. The first maid offers me a polite smile.

“These were delivered for you, Miss Aurora. Mr. Sokolov asked that you choose whichever one you’d like to wear this evening.”

For a second, I think I’ve heard her wrong. “Roman sent these?”

“Yes.”

She curtsies politely before the maids quietly excuse themselves, closing the bedroom door behind them.

Audrey and I simply stare at one another.

“He bought you dresses?” Audrey finally says.

“I…” I don’t even know what to say.

She lets out a low whistle and begins unzipping the first garment bag.

Inside hangs a breathtaking black gown with a fitted bodice that melts into layers of flowing silk. Tiny crystals had been embroidered along the neckline, catching the afternoon sunlight like scattered stars.

“Oh…” She carefully lifts it out. “This is gorgeous.”

I barely have time to admire it before she opens the second bag. This one holds a champagne-colored satin gown.

The third dress steals my breath. Deep burgundy, rich velvet. Finally, Audrey opens the last garment bag.

Nestled inside is an ivory evening gown covered in intricate hand-sewn beadwork. Soft chiffon falls from the waist, while delicate floral embroidery winds across the bodice. It looks timeless.

I slowly reach out, brushing my fingertips over the bodice.

“They…” My voice barely comes out. “They’re my size.”

“They are,” Audrey responds.

I glance between the dresses. “How does he know my measurements?”

Neither of us answers.

Another question settles heavily inside my mind. How long has he been planning this?

Audrey lets out a thoughtful hum as she studies the dresses. “I’ll give him one thing. He has excellent taste. And I’m not just saying that to hype him up—you know clothing is your sister’s strong suit. So take it from me, his taste is actually pretty good.”

She grins. “At least you’ll never have a boring wardrobe.”

I slowly turn my head to look at her. “Seriously?”

She immediately winces.

“…Right.” She raises both hands. “Not the point.”
