She’d never looked at this side of his jeans before. Yowsa, he had one pretty patootie. Mina had to stop herself from shimmying up there and squeezing it like a pair of yummy ripe melons before she took a bite.

By the time the line turned again and they were side by side, Mina’s face was red with more than exertion. Something about Noah just made her feel like a wildcat in heat. It was exciting, and scary.

There was no way this could ever work out.

After a few more dances, the band stopped for a break. Without thinking, she threw her arms around Noah and hugged him.

“I’m having an awesome time,” she said. “Thank you.”

One of his arms curved around her shoulders, his hand cupping the back of her head. He stared down at her for a moment, his eyes a deep blue, and then he tilted his head.

His lips brushed hers, very softly. Warmth spread through Mina all the way down to her toes, and she parted her lips, wanting more of that feeling.

Noah pulled his head back and smiled at her. “I’ve been wanting to do that ever since I first saw you,” he said.

“Mmm,” she said, drunk with the taste of his lips. “You could probably do it again.”

The smile deepened and he stepped back. “I’m thinking I should buy you dinner first,” he said. “Or at least a couple of drinks.”

Mina froze, and he had to take her hand and pull her off the dance floor, seating her once more at their table.

“That is so weird you said that,” she said.

“What?” Noah handed her one of the menus the hostess had left on the table.

“About buying me dinner. I just said that exact thing to somebody…” She shook her head. “Never mind.” It was too weird to explain she’d said it to her four-year-old son, about a wolf.

He opened the huge plastic menu, filled with mouth-watering pictures. “We’re getting the leaning tower of onion rings, of course,” he said. “So the big questions are these: Half rack or full rack? Cajun, dry rub or traditional barbecue—my personal favorite, by the way, but feel free to order what you like. We can get all three, if you want to try them all. And fries, slaw, loaded potato skins, or all of the above.”

Mina shook her head. “I’m going to overeat and barf all over the floor,” she told him. “And everybody knows you’re not supposed to do onions on a first date. Where were you raised, Angus McHottie?”

Noah reached into his shirt pocket, brought out a tin of breath mints and put them on the table. “No faith,” he said, shaking his head mournfully. “I have tissues, too, just in case anything mushy happens and you need them.”

Giggling, Mina gave in and let him order what seemed to be one of everything.

Before long, they had a table full of heaped plates of barbecue ribs and fixins. Mina had never seen a man who could put away food like Noah could—he ate everything on his plate plus whatever she couldn’t manage, and then ordered another rack of ribs for her to take home.

She was so stuffed she felt like she was going to explode, and then Noah said, “Dessert?”

Mina said, “You have got to be kidding me. If I eat dessert I really am going to barf, and all the breath mints and tissues in the world won’t be able to erase that from your mind.”

Noah fished out a laminated card from where it was propped up between the sugar and the tabasco sauce. He held it in front of her, letting it swing back and forth, and droned in a cheesy stage hypnotist voice, “You are getting huuuunnngry. Veeerrry huuuunnngry. You are overwhelmed with the desire for molten chocolate lava cake.”

Fracketty frack, she was.

“Oh my God,” she said. “I want some. How do you do that? And if you make me flap my arms and squawk like a chicken, I’m stabbing you with my fork, so don’t even think about it.”

Noah put the card back, looking smug. “I have many powers. You are helpless before me.”

No fracking kidding. If he kept his up, all he’d have to do was snap his fingers and her panties would drop to the floor like they’d been magnetized.

The band had come back while they were eating, and now they were playing a slow song. Noah ordered the dessert, and then he stood up and held out his hand.

Mina took it and let him walk her out onto the dance floor. Noah lifted her hand and twirled her around, ending with his other arm around her waist, holding her close.

Mina’s arm slid up around his neck, as naturally as if they’d been dancing together for years. He swayed to the music, leading her expertly, their bodies fitting together perfectly.

Mina was overwhelmed by the warmth of his body, his masculine scent, and the melty feeling of being in his arms. It was like a little cocoon just for the two of them, where everything felt right and nothing could possibly go wrong.

Noah tilted his head so their foreheads touched, slowing their movement. Mina felt herself breathing faster, more aware of the way their hips pressed together. She could feel him beginning to get hard against her.

There was an answering rush of warmth between her legs, and all she could think about was Noah laying her back on her bed and having his way with her. Lips, tongue, hands, johnson—she wanted it all.

As if it could hear her thoughts, Noah’s dick got bigger and harder. His hand slid down to the top of her ass, pulling her even closer, the friction of their bodies making her hot all over.

His lips found hers and he covered her mouth in slow, lingering kisses. His tongue brushed her lips, sliding in her mouth and tasting her, meeting hers in a dance of its own.

Mina hardly noticed when the song ended. Noah held her for another few seconds, then pulled away, his eyes looking almost drunk. “You,” he said softly, “are going to make me completely crazy.”

“I think I might be already there,” she whispered back.

He smiled his slow, lazy, sexy smile. “Maybe we should take the dessert to go,” he said.

Heat rushed to her all her nerve endings. Her lady parts took over her mouth. “Maybe we should,” she said.
