The crowd erupted again.
‘We might need to get a bigger front door installed at our house,’ Halle shouted above the noise.
‘Why?’ I asked.
‘My fiancé is the most humble, down-to-earth person I know, but with the number of women that are going to be wanking whilst listening to that story and drooling at his posters, there’s no way his head is gonna fit through the door!’ She laughed.
‘He’s really lucky to have such an understanding partner.’ I smiled. I was so glad when my idea to create merch with photos of Jake and his autograph were approved. They were going to sell like hotcakes. Plus, the SatisFya logo would be included on everything so it’d be at the forefront of our subscribers’ minds.
‘He is!’ She chuckled. ‘But whilst his fans get to fantasise about fucking my man, I’m the only one who actually gets to do it.’
That was how I felt about Blake. I knew loads of my colleagues wanted to sleep with him, but Blake made me feel so special and secure, that I didn’t let it bother me. Well, I tried not to, anyway.
‘Thank you all for coming,’ Blake said. ‘We look forward to celebrating with you again in two months when SatisFya will be officially launched.’
‘Thanks again!’ Jake added, before blowing the audience a kiss and heading backstage. He had a flight to catch to Australia for a concert, so we were lucky he was able to attend tonight.
As soon as Jake stepped backstage, he gave Halle a long slow kiss.
I averted my gaze, instead choosing to watch my own gorgeous man as he walked down the stage steps, into the crowd where Calista was waiting with key members of the press and influencers who wanted to interview him.
‘You were amazing!’ Halle gushed once they both came up for air and I turned my attention back to the celebrity lovebirds.
‘Thanks, Smiley,’ Jake said. Looked like they also had cute nicknames.
‘You really were,’ I added. ‘Thanks so much again for coming. Is there anything else I can get you before you leave?’
‘I appreciate that, but our car’s waiting outside to take us to the airport,’ Jake said as his burly security guards signalled that the area was clear for him to leave.
‘No worries,’ I replied. ‘Have a safe flight.’
‘Thanks,’ Halle said.
‘Hope you get millions of subscribers tomorrow!’ Jake said. ‘And see you at the launch party!’
‘Can’t wait!’ I waved them off then stepped back out to the main hall.
As I looked around at the excited crowd, relief flooded my chest.
We’d done it.
The event was a success.
My phone pinged and as I looked at all of the notifications and tags from influencers who were raving about the app online, pride flooded my belly.
This was even better than I could’ve hoped for.
Now the presentation was over, I could allow myself one teeny tiny glass of champagne to celebrate.
I scanned the room for a server, but as soon as they brought the trays out, the flutes were snapped up.
It’d be easier just to go to the open bar.
I waved at some colleagues as I made my way through the crowd. Blake was now standing with his brothers and they were laughing and joking happily.
He’d arranged to meet up with them after the event to break the news about us.
I swallowed a lump in my throat.
