Just as I picked it up a deep, gravelly voice bellowed around me.

‘What are you doing?’

My head snapped up and when I saw the man in front of me, the air left my lungs.

It was Melissa’s colleague from HR.

Her extremely handsome colleague.

He had smooth olive skin and a jawline that was so sharp, it could cut glass.

And his eyes were so blue and piercing, they didn’t look real.

At a guess, I’d say he was in his mid-thirties and around six foot three, but he could easily be taller.

His broad shoulders and muscular frame were so imposing, they filled the entire doorframe.

The staff must get paid a lot of money here because the cut of his navy-blue suit was immaculate.

So was the crisp white shirt which was unbuttoned at the neck, showing a hint of firm chest.

Everything fit him so well, it had to be custom-made.

He oozed money and power.

Never mind working in HR, this guy looked like he belonged on a catwalk or the cover of a business magazine.

If this was how Melissa’s underling dressed, she must walk around in a ballgown and tiara.

The man ground his jaw in annoyance and I remembered that he’d asked me a question and was clearly waiting for an answer.

‘Sorry! I didn’t mean to touch company property. I wanted to use mine on the Tube, but I left it at home, so I was just going to use this quickly here.’

His eyes bulged.

‘You wanted to use that, here? In the meeting room?’ he growled.

‘Yes.’ I nodded. ‘I was just going to have a little swipe before the meeting. I’d clean it afterwards of course. I know it’s not usually good to share, but—’

‘Using that here is completely inappropriate.’ His nostrils flared. ‘And I’m at a loss to understand how you were contemplating using it on public transport.’

‘Lots of women do it!’ I protested, remembering the woman I’d seen apply a full face of make-up, including winged eyeliner and contouring, on the Tube last week. The transformation was so impressive, I almost gave her a standing ovation.

‘Do you realise what you’re holding?’

Doh. What a stupid question. Did this guy think I was an idiot?

‘It’s a lipstick, obviously!’

The corner of his mouth twitched.

‘What’s your name?’ His eyes narrowed.

First, he asked me a stupid question, and now he was asking my name?

Surely Melissa would’ve passed on my details?

Jeez. And I thought I was unprepared.
