‘Better. You were right. Doing research definitely helped. Just as well, seeing as I need to update Mr Devlin today on my progress.’

‘Oooh, imagine if you could use him for your research!’ She cackled.

‘Ha! As if!’ I scoffed. ‘Something tells me he only dates supermodels or high-flying female CEOs.’

‘That’s true. Although he hasn’t been seen with anyone in a while. Not since his last relationship blew up spectacularly.’

‘Really?’ My eyes widened. I wasn’t one to gossip, but I was intrigued.

‘Yeah. It was all over the press and… shit! Oscar Devlin’s PA is waiting by the lift. We’ll have to talk about this another time.’

‘Oh, okay. I should be getting to my desk anyway,’ I said, disappointed that I’d have to wait to hear the full story.

Anyway, it didn’t matter. I should be focusing on my job, not gossiping about my boss’s ex.

As soon as I sat at my desk, I got to work. It was only when my phone rang that I looked at the clock. It was almost lunchtime.

‘Hello, this is Ellie,’ I answered.

‘Hello, Eleanor. This is Valerie. Mr Devlin would like to see you now please.’

‘Of course. I’ll be right up.’

After grabbing my notepad and pen, I headed to the lift.

My heart thudded against my chest.

I was always nervous about meeting him.

But knowing I’d spent the whole weekend imagining all of the filthy things he could do to me would make things a lot more awkward.

I really hoped I could hold it together.

Once I reached the top floor, Valerie gave me the all clear to go into his office. The door was closed, so l knocked, just in case.

‘Enter,’ he barked.

‘Hello, Mr Devlin.’ I walked towards his desk as my heart threatened to burst from my ribcage.

‘Eleanor,’ he said flatly, his gaze firmly focused on his computer screen. ‘Sit.’

God.

Dana was right. Mr Devlin might be a rude grump, but he really was insanely good-looking.

He was wearing a navy pin-striped suit which screamed money and power.

And his scent was downright obscene.

It was rich, masculine and addictive.

It was the kind of fragrance you wanted to buy an entire crate of to spray on your pillow and every item of clothing you owned so that you could sniff it at regular intervals.

No? Just me?

Okay, maybe that did sound a little weird.

Anyway, Mr Devlin’s scent was like that.
