Rhen kissed her forehead. “I won’t let anything happen to you. I’d die before I let anything happen to you, Kitten.”

That’s what she was afraid of, someone dying. She refused to let anyone die for her. She wasn’t worth it.

“No matter what happens,” she told Rhen, “We all have to fight to stay alive.”

“Of course.” He pushed her hair away from her face. “You fight to stay alive. And I’ll fight to keep you alive.”

“You have to stay alive too.” I don’t know what I’ll do without you.

“I will. But know this, if there’s no you, there’s no me. I go where you go. Even death can’t keep us apart.”

Those words caused more dread to settle in her chest. The house rocked again.

“I think it’s time for that spell, Kitten.”

Winter nodded. Closed her eyes and whispered the spell that would take her to Sinclair. They appeared inside a cave just in time to hear Kaede mention coming to look for them. Winter was just happy that both Kaede and Sinclair looked fine. But Rhen had to make a smart retort.

“No need,” Rhen told Kaede. “We’re here.”

Kaede growled.

“Simper down, drampire…”

“Don’t call me that. How did you find me?”

“My mate has her ways. We came here for Sin and to get away from the apocalypse wenches who were close to breaking through the wards. Sin, you good?”

Kaede stood in front of Sin. “My treasures are well. I wouldn’t hurt them.”

He was protective of them. Great. Winter smiled. “I was hoping you’d be like this. I was hoping you wouldn’t crave blood.”

“How is this possible?” Sin called from behind Kaede.

Winter had a theory. “It’s because his dragon half is stronger than his vampire half. And probably because his vampire half was weakened due to all the demon blood in his veins when he was turned. We’re lucky he survived it at all.”

“Thank you, Rhen,” Rhen said. “Come on, say it.”

Kaede growled.

“He’s still growly,” Rhen complained. “The only thing that changed is his fangs.”

“And they’re sharper than yours,” Kaede bragged.

“Mine are bigger.”

“Size doesn’t matter.”

“Let’s ask the ladies.”

Winter rolled her eyes as the men continued arguing. Sin wrapped her arms around Kaede and rested her face against his skin. Then she said, “Less arguing and more planning.”

Kaede looked over his shoulder at her. “Yes, mate. Whatever you say.”

“And he’s still whipped,” Rhen pointed out. “Let’s go to the Compound. We can plan there. This cave is depressing.”

“Sin and I will meet you there.”

“Hey, drampire…”
