SYLVIE
My phone buzzes in the middle of the lecture, startling me.
For the last hour, I’ve been listening to the professor standing at the front of the lecture hall explaining how to scale social enterprises without losing the original charitable mission, while diligently taking notes like a good little student. Every time I’ve had to describe my studies to Baptiste, he says it’s too detailed for him. He says all he knows is how to make a lot of money, fast.
I’ve really been enjoying this course, and it helps that I have a man who supports me. Studying and spending quality time with my new husband have breathed new life into me. Turns out, Baptiste was true to his word that I’ll retain this freedom he promised.
I just hope it’ll last, and that he won’t flip like so many other men with a need to control in my life.
No one in the lecture hall has noticed the sudden vibration coming from my pocket. As the professor continues talking, I stealthily check the notification.
It’s Baptiste.
I immediately blush, and then I berate myself in my mind for how I’m no more than a silly teenager with a crush.
How’s it going, Highness?
I’m in the middle of a lecture.
Get out of there now. Your husband needs satisfaction that only his wife can give.
Hold your horses, Mr. Impatient. I’m busy.
Damn you. You’re not studying tonight, are you?
I might be.
Might be? What the hell does that mean? Are you deliberately misbehaving?
Depends on how much you’re offering. Is this going to be a quick and dirty fuck, or are you going to treat me before you claim me?
Dinner. My treat. Date night for my new wife. And then afterward I’ll teach you how to properly behave.
Lock it in.
I put my phone away, unable to wipe the smile from my face.
The professor continues to drone on, but not a single word goes into my head. All I think about is Baptiste’s promise.
And, despite my better judgment, I’m already excited.

BAPTISTE
I’m not one for making a habit out of dining at fancy, exclusive restaurants. I find them too pretentious for my taste. I’d rather grab a quick bite and get back to work at my desk.
But I’ve promised my wife a date, and she deserves the very best the city can offer.
And sure, I can’t help but spoil her any chance I get.
This restaurant for our date tonight has earned its right to be labeled the trendiest and hottest eatery in town. It’s more of an experience than simply somewhere to consume food. Very intimate with its sleek black marble floors and candlelit decadence, even the scent in the air reminds me of wealth.
“Oh, this is very nice,” Sylvie gasps as security waves us through the moment they recognize me.
I raise an eyebrow at my wife as we pass through the thick mahogany doors.
