I don’t ease up as I continue to glare at him. I hate that he’s right. My body does want him. Whenever he’s around, it’s like my pussy aches for something it hasn’t even had a taste of yet. And maybe, I might want him a little bit too. He’s the first guy that can hold his own and go tit for tat with me. It’s refreshing.
“Let’s get one thing clear right now. You need to stop breaking into my place. It’s fucking creepy,” I snap as I lower the knife from his throat.
“Yes, let’s get one thing clear, tesoro. I will stop at nothing to find you. Nothing in this world will keep me from you. So, if that means breaking into your place, that’s what I’m going to fucking do,” Matteo growls.
“You could have just texted.”
“I could have just texted…” Matteo is now looking at me like I’ve bumped my head. “I thought I left you in my bed in my clothes under the safety of my men in my home.” He points his finger at himself. “Imagine my surprise when I got a phone call from one of my men saying that he went to check on you, and you were nowhere to be found.”
“Imagine that.” I shrug innocently.
“You’re playing with fire here, tesoro,” Matteo growls.
“Good thing I love the heat.”
“He could have been waiting here for you to finish the job! You don’t know if he’s dead or alive!” Matteo explodes, losing his last bit of control.
“Well, he wasn’t.”
“You are the most infuriating creature I have ever encountered,” Matteo growls as he raises his hand to my cheek. My heart stops as I wait for his touch, but it never comes. I watch him lower his hand as fast as he raised it, as if he thought twice about it. I hate that I’m disappointed. “Pack a fucking bag.”
“For what?”
“Are you the one high this time? This is the last time I’m telling you that you’re staying at my place until we figure this shit out.”
“You don’t get to just tell me what to do all of the time!” I yell to his back as he walks out of the room.
“Yeah, I do, Wren. You’ll listen to the boss,” Matteo says without looking back, leaving me there speechless.
What just happened?
Chapter
Eighteen
WREN
Forty minutes later, I think I’ve packed everything I wear on the daily into my suitcase. It’s not hard to do when you barely own anything. I’ve always wanted to be one of those girls with a big enough wardrobe that they don’t have to wash clothes for a month. I bet Matteo has one that size. I didn’t physically see the closet, but if it’s big enough for him to actually disappear into, it has to be massive.
Walking out into the living room with my suitcase in tow is like deja vu. Matteo is sitting in the same exact spot he did on the first night he broke into my place.
“Ready?” Matteo asks from his spot on the couch. The first few buttons on his maroon dress shirt are undone, allowing just a slight amount of chest hair to poke through. Just enough to make you fantasize about what the rest of him must look like. I bet it leads you straight down to his massive cock that's making himself known against his thigh from the confines of his dress pants.
“Not really.” I don’t want to stay with you while all of this is going on. “What happened to the blood in the kitchen?” If my landlord came in and saw that when he fixed the front door, I’m definitely getting served eviction papers.
“I had it taken care of. Same with your door.”
“Why?” I ask, studying him. Feeling slightly guilty for asking me to help him out when he was hurt, I get. But this is becoming too much. Why would someone like him care so much about what happens to someone like me? It just doesn’t make any sense.
“It’s the least I can do.” Matteo stands up and looks out the window, scanning the street. I didn’t notice it before, but his body is tense like he’s just waiting for something to happen.
“Something out there?” I ask, coming to stand behind him and look out as well. There are no lights on in my apartment. The only glow is from the streetlights, making it easier to see out.
“No,” Matteo replies coldly, breaking out of his trance. “Let’s get out of here. I’m sick of being in this shithole.”
Well, okay then.
The change in his demeanor stings. I know this place is a shithole, but it’s my shithole. A small part of me thought maybe we had gotten past this phase. He’s so hot and cold. The man can go from licking water off my body to acting like I’m the bane of his existence at the drop of a hat. Which he is fully bringing on himself.
