All I brought with me is a cheap flat iron I found at the thrift store. It takes a while to heat up, but it gets the job done. Deciding to give it a rest for the night, I’ll straighten in the morning before work.

I lay my head down on the pillow and for once, I feel liberated. The incident with Zach showing up here is at the back of mind.

Chapter

INK

“Iheard the drop went all right?” Cain asks, coming into church.

I’m camped out at the long table in the room with all the club’s finances scattered around. Apparently, owning your own business is good enough for these assholes to force me into the position of looking after everyone else’s money. I got sick of telling them I pay someone to do my shit at the shop, so here I am.

“Yup.” I nod, adding another number on the calculator. “They were a little late, seemed a little nervous.”

Cain takes a seat across from me. “That’s what Hash said. I hate when motherfuckers can’t stick to a schedule. Makes me not want to trust them. Nothing seemed off?”

“It felt more like they wanted us to know that they are in control. Which I didn’t particularly like them throwin’ their tiny dicks around like that. I’ve never seen the two who showed up before, so Hash and I thought they could be new.”

“It’s possible,” Cain says, rubbing his beard. “Didn’t call them on that shit?”

“Didn’t seem worth the energy at the time.” I shrug. “It would have been an even fight. I think they didn’t have the balls to say it out loud, but the move was there.”

“Fuckers.” Cain leans over to look at what I have laid out. “Everything look good?” I hesitate, unsure if I should tell him my suspicions now or wait it out to see if I fucked up. Cain tenses at my hesitation. “Tell me.”

“We’re short.”

Cain’s deep sigh echoes throughout the room. “How much?”

“Five grand.”

“Fuck.” Cain slaps both of his palms on the table, bending over it slightly as he looks at everything.

“I’m goin’ to start from the beginnin’ and see if I fucked up.”

“You ever fuck up before?”

“Not yet.” I shake my head.

“Exactly.” Cain pushes off the table. “Go over everything again, but my money is on us still being short five g’s.”

I’d place money on that too at this point.

“Will do, Prez.”

“How’s the new girl working out?” Evan asks me later that night at the clubhouse.

We all decided on a chill night in and honestly, I’m relieved. The last thing I want to deal with is a repeat of what happened last time.

Until I figure out what’s wrong with my fucking head and why Sutton seems to live rent free in it and continues to fuck up my life without even knowing it, there will be no pussy. Not even club pussy.

I remember thinking Cain was fucking nuts for giving it up as easy as he did. We all noticed him slowing down long before Evan. I always thought the whole ‘it’s getting old’ excuse was bullshit, but I’m starting to see what he means. The meaningless sex with someone probably every single one of my brothers has been with doesn’t appeal anymore.

Taking a drag of my beer, I lean back onto the couch cushion. “So far, so good.”

“Bullshit.” Hash’s loud laugh booms from behind me before he rounds the couch, making me tense. I would rather stab this beer bottle in my eye than have this conversation right now. “Gage filled me in when I ran into him at DD’s. Said Sutton’s a sweet girl, but she’s sunk her teeth into your ass and has you by the balls. Oh, and you pissed her off.”

Fucking Gage.
