We watch the life drain out of Rail, his body now a pale gray and eyes dead.

“I’m glad that’s over with. He was becoming a real annoyance,” Adduci says as he looks at his watch. “Don’t worry about cleaning up. I’ll have my crew come in. I know we all want to get back to our women.”

We all nod.

“Appreciate it.” Prez shakes his hand. “I owe you one.”

Adduci waves it off. “I’m sure we’ll both need something from each other again in the future. That’s what an alliance is.”

“You good?” Scotch asks, coming up behind me.

“Yeah.” I nod. And I am. That piece of shit was getting on my last damn nerve.

“Thank God he’s gone. I’ve been over his ass for nearly two goddamn years,” Ink says as he slaps me on the back. “Let’s head back. I know Sutton is probably freakin’ the fuck out.”

So is Aisling.

I have a smile on my face knowing I just killed a man for the woman who loves me.

Four Months Later

Ifeel my phone vibrate in my back pocket as I’m under the hood of the new BMW X5 M I bought Aisling. She doesn’t know it yet, and I know she’s going to want to fucking kill me for how much it costs, but she’ll get over it.

I’m looking everything over before I give it to her tonight.

I’m hoping the rock I have weighing my pocket down will ease the blow.

Pulling my phone out, I see I have a text from Aisling.

Baby Doll: I really need to talk to you.

What the fuck?

I hit call, not wasting time with the back-and-forth bullshit of texting.

“Hello?” Aisling’s sweet voice flows through the phone.

“What do you need to talk about?” I ask, cutting to the chase.

“Are you busy?”

“If I were busy, I wouldn’t be calling you, babe.”

“Can you stop by the house?”

“I’m on my way,” I tell her as I hang up the phone, already walking to my bike.

There’s something in her tone I don’t like.

I barely remember the drive as I race home, my brain knowing the way by now as it goes on autopilot. The whole time I can’t stop thinking about why she sounded freaked out and why she couldn’t tell me over the phone.

She’s never had a problem telling me shit before. She tells me everything. Some might think it’s too much, but not me. When you’ve lost something once, you realize real quick you’d rather soak up everything they give you than have nothing at all.

I park in the driveway and hop off my bike and run up to the house.
