“I can walk.”

I clench my jaw. I can’t stand the fact that she’s been walking by herself around the city. She believes even the bad people are good, and that’s what’s going to get her killed. Something could have happened to her before I even knew her.

“You aren’t fucking walking.”

Bronwyn sets her bowl down on the counter harder than she needed to before crossing her arms and turning to me. “Just because we fucked doesn’t mean you get to tell me what I can and can’t do with my life. You know who has been taking care of me since I can remember?” She jabs a finger into her chest, making her full tits jiggle slightly from the emphasis. “I have. Not my mom. Not my dad. And surely not a fucking man.”

Fuck.

Why am I fighting myself from getting hard right now?

“Wrong,” I tell her, my tone leaving no room for argument. “My dick was in you, so that means I get a say over your safety.”

Her mouth opens and closes as she stammers over what to say. If she were a cartoon character, I bet I would see steam coming out of her ears. “You can’t be believed,” she finally hisses.

“Better believe it, cara.” I shrug. “I don’t make the rules. It’s just the way it is.”

“That’s not the way it is! For a sane person, that’s not the way it is!”

“Cara,” I say with a sardonic smile. “You, out of all people, should know I’m not sane. Get dressed. I don’t want you to be late, and I need my shirt back.”

I leave the tiny kitchen to fetch the rest of my clothes with a smug smirk on my face from the feeling of her eyes following me.

She has no idea what type of ride she signed up for.

Chapter

Fifteen

BRONWYN

Gio took me to work against my will.

The fit I threw about riding in his car, which I’m sure is worth more money than I’ll ever see in my lifetime, didn’t work. I’m not sure how much a Maybach costs, but the way the leather feels against my hand lets me know it’s real and not the fake stuff my purse is made from. I don’t feel worthy of riding in something like this. And what did he say? Nothing. He looked amused before he told me to get the fuck in the car.

Even though I didn’t admit out loud, it was nice not to have to walk, I think the smug bastard knew it. He had a stupid smirk on his face the entire ride to AFK. It took everything in me not to smack it off. Maybe a bloody nose in his expensive car is the lesson he needs.

And to think that wasn’t bad enough, he ignored my pleas of pulling up to the curb and dropping me off. That apparently was too hard for him because he parked, opened my door, and walked me inside.

“I needed to see with my own eyes that you made it here safely.”

“I would have been fine walking,” I say, trying to contain my attitude because I can feel Nate’s eyes on us and there’s nothing more I hate than causing a scene, but I fail miserably.

“Amuse me,” Gio says, not moving to leave.

“Well, thanks.” I wave my hand toward the front door. “I can take it from here.”

“I think you’re forgetting something.”

My brow lowers in confusion as I try to think, but with him being this close to me, it’s nearly impossible. “I don’t think I am.”

“Give me a kiss.”

“What? No!” I hiss, lowering my voice as eyes dart around, making sure no one heard him.

“Now, cara, are you embarrassed of me?” Gio asks, that annoying, amused smile back on his face.

“I can’t stand you.”
