“I don’t know if I should tell you.”

Sling’s eye twitches. “Blake, I swear to god if you don’t spit it the fuck out, I’m going to lose my shit. I’m hanging on by a thread here.”

I swallow, the tension that’s radiating off Sling’s body is making me feel like I’m going to throw up. “He told me I would have to get on my knees.”

I hold my breath, waiting for his reaction.

“Would you recognize him?”

“What?” I ask confused.

Why would I ever see him again?

I hope I never see him again.

“Would. You. Recognize. Him,” Sling repeats slowly, enunciating each word through his clenched jaw.

“Yeah…” I answer. It comes out sounding like a question.

“Yeah? Or yeah,” Sling asks.

“Yeah,” I answer again, this time more confidently.

Sling looks at me and doesn’t say a word.

It’s killing me and making me feel like I did something wrong all at the same time. The silence is making me anxious.

Sling isn’t the type of guy who stays silent. If he has an opinion, he’s going to make sure you hear it whether you like it or not.

I think I might actually throw up this time.

Sling exhales loudly through his nose as he places his hand on the back of my head, closing the distance between us before his lips touch my forehead in what has to be the softest kiss I’ve ever had in my entire life. His touch is gentle, as if he’s afraid he’s going to break me.

“Okay,” he rumbles against my forehead.

Okay?

That’s it?

What the hell does that mean?

“Are you okay?” I ask even though I already know the answer.

He’s not okay in the slightest.

“I’ll be okay when you show me who it is and I fucking kill him.”

“Sling!” I slap his chest. “You just got out of jail. I’m not visiting you in prison,” I lie.

I would totally visit him in prison. I would be like one of the girls on Love After Lockup, driving to see him any chance I can get.

“You only go to prison if there’s a body for them to find,” is Sling’s response. “We’re staying at my place tonight.”

I know when to yield and when to push forward, and now is ‌a time to yield.

So instead of arguing with him, I follow him out of the room.

Sling had me wait at the bar until he was ready for us to leave. He said he had some business to take care of and left me to it. I knew that wasn’t the time to pry, but I’m definitely getting the information out of him later.
