A Smile in a Whisper

His slick fingers circled and teased, arousing tingly shivers throughout her body. Lashes fluttering closed, she fell into a blissful nod. “Mmmhmm.” She smiled and opened her eyes then met Nick’s irresistible mouth, his tongue flirting and tasting as they staggered under the spray, rinsing away all traces of soap and bubbles.

Evie reached down and curled her fingers around him. I can’t believe I’m doing this. Nick was hot, thick, and obscenely hard. She began stroking up and down.

He gasped against her lips. “Little harder. Faster…”

Evie fulfilled his wish, her grip tighter, growing more confident as Nick groaned, his lather-free fingers gliding between her legs.

Hand slowing on his erection, Evie drew in a quick breath as he slipped a finger inside her and another rubbed her clit, the sensation dizzying, more erotic than anything she’d ever experienced or imagined. Her thighs quivered and she looped her arms around his neck, the instinct to buck against his hand taking over.

Breaths ragged against her wet skin, Nick lifted her right knee, holding it by his hip. “Come, pretty Evie. Let me feel you come.”

His surprise dirty talk and the deeper angle of his fingers prompted her to grind faster, chasing release, but her foot kept slipping and, along with it, her fantasy of wild first-time sex with Nick. Why can’t I do this? Concentrate! She closed her eyes as his fingers teased and pressed, and felt her orgasm building, rising, all her senses heightened until she tightened around him and waves of throbbing pleasure ripped through her. Evie cried out, her body trembling as she clung to him, falling into breathless bliss. My first orgasm with a guy—and it’s Nick!

“Was it okay?” he whispered, kissing her forehead.

“It was everything.” Looking up, she caught his adorable grin and a slight shiver. Stood beyond the stream of water, Nick was sacrificing his warmth for hers. He’s freezing and I’m falling.

Maybe this position was too ambitious, not to mention risky. “Nick?” she purred. “Wanna move to—”

“Bed?”

They didn’t make it that far.

Amidst a sea of wet towels strewn across the floor, Evie dove into her bag and fished out a condom. Nick sat back and tore open the foil. Goosebumps riddled her skin as she helped him roll it on.

If this is a dream, don’t let me wake up!

Nick settled between Evie’s thighs, her silver name pendant swaying forward around his neck. “Okay.”

Evie closed her hand around his hard, hot length. “Ready?”

He nodded, his focus intense, heavy with lust. Slowly, Evie guided him close until Nick took over, her breath hitching as inch by thick inch he pushed inside, filling her deep.

He blinked like the sensation was too much. “Holy fuck,” he growled above her. “Evie, oh my god.” His lips parted again in a moan of pure pleasure. “You all right?”

Letting out a low sigh, she dug her nails into his back. “So goood.” Evie rolled her hips back and forth, the slippery friction pulling a groan from Nick’s throat.

He began grinding against her, thrusting in and out slowly at first, but quickly need won out. Nick’s gaze grew carnal and determined, only leaving Evie to look down where their bodies met again and again. “I don’t think—I won’t last…” he grunted.

Evie didn’t expect a first-time marathon with Nick. She didn’t expect another orgasm either. The deep feel of him, his weight moving above her, so intimate and vulnerable, was more than enough.

Mid-gasp, her fingers skated along his jaw as his hips unleashed a final frenetic thrust and a rushed “Fuuck!” fled his lips, followed by “I love you, Evie Sutherland!”

Fully spent, he collapsed on top of her, his weight ousting a satisfied giggle from her throat. Now I know what all the fuss is about!

TWENTY-TWO

EVIE

Now, Friday, July 28

“Our last day on Hoy,” Evie murmured to herself as she parked the catering truck in the small lot in Rackwick. “The one where everyone gets to rough it.”

Unlike the rest of archipelago with its green fields and extensive farmland, Orkney’s second largest island was much more akin to the rugged, heather-covered Scottish Highlands with wetlands, glacial carved valleys, and mountainous hills. The production, whether intentional or not, had waded in slowly, spending its first two days on Hoy amidst the southern splendor of Melsetter House, a three-story mansion overlooking Longhope Bay where electricity and hospitality were readily available. The third and final day, however, couldn’t have been more different. The northern township of Rackwick, while breathtakingly beautiful, came with little shelter, challenging terrain, and pesky midges—tiny flies with a big bite.

For the first time in a long time, Evie was hoping for unrelenting gusts. Midges hated them. She was also hoping for a problem-free day. Both Sunita and Jamie had come down with the stomach bug making the rounds and had stayed behind in Kirkwall, leaving Evie flying solo.

She hopped out of the truck feeling confident. At least it’s a small contingent to feed today. Closing her eyes, she reached for the sky in a long overdue stretch, loosening the tightness in her muscles after an hour of travel via ferry and truck. The pop of gravel beneath tires signaled the arrival of the two SUVs carrying actors and crew, as well as the production truck loaded with cameras and equipment. Unlike Evie, who had to return to Kirkwall each night to restock, they’d been staying on the island in various hostels, B&Bs, and Hoy’s lone hotel. She yawned, fighting through persistent exhaustion as she took in the dirt road leading to the curved bay and the day’s shooting location, the stone croft of Burnmouth. Built in the early 19th century but now owned by the local trust, the one-room dwelling near the beach with its rare thatched heather roof, wood burning stove, and rudimentary toilet and sink in its adjacent shed was operated as a free, no-frills cottage, or ‘bothy’ as Orcadians called it, for campers. The lack of locks, electricity, and beds added to its rustic charm.
