Mace locked one cuff around his wrist.
“I understand enough.”
I kicked the pistol away and rushed to Max.
“Max.”
He stood over Robert, teeth bared.
No blood.
No limp.
Mace looked toward me.
“He’s okay.”
My legs almost gave out.
Elizabeth slid down the wall behind the support.
I went to her.
“It’s over.”
“No.”
Her eyes widened.
“Evan.”
Robert stopped fighting.
A smile slowly spread across his face.
My blood went cold.
“What about Evan?”
Robert laughed into the concrete.
“You came all this way to save the wrong woman.”
I grabbed the front of his coat and rolled him enough to see his face.
“Where is he?”
“You found Eliza.”
His smile widened.
“So Evan went after the one he was always supposed to kill.”
Rylie.
I reached for my radio.
“Trigger!”
