Lila laughs politely. “You’ve been gone a while.”

“Too long.”

He leans closer.

I keep walking.

“Married, though.” He glances at her ring. “That’s unfortunate.”

“I’m pretty happy about it.”

Good girl.

“Doesn’t mean you can’t have friends.”

His hand lands on her lower back.

Everything inside me goes quiet.

I stop behind him. “Move your hand.”

Lila’s eyes find mine.

Brody freezes.

Then slowly turns.

Recognition spreads across his face.

His mouth curls. “Well, fuck me.”

“Move it.”

Instead, his hand slides around Lila’s waist.

She pulls away and Brody laughs. “Still giving orders, Killer Miller?”

Lila goes still and so does the rest of the bar. I don’t look at her. I can’t. Not now.

Brody takes a drink. “Didn’t tell the new wife?”

“Walk away.”

“Jesus, Dane. Relax.” He looks at Lila. “You could’ve done better than an ex-con, sweetheart.”

“Brody,” Wyatt warns.

Brody ignores him, his eyes stay on Lila. “Come home with me, sweetheart. I’ll show you what a man who didn’t spend eighteen months in a cage can do.”

I grab him, his stool crashes backward and someone shouts.

Brody gets one surprised laugh out before I drag him through the back door.

Cold air blasts us, I throw him into the snow. He lands hard.

“Still fucking crazy,” he says.

“Get up.”
