That kills the rest of my anger. “You cold?”

Her mouth drops open. “You almost killed a man and you’re asking if I’m cold?”

“You’re shaking.”

“Because I just watched my husband turn someone’s face into ground beef.”

“Should’ve stayed inside.”

Her eyes flash. “Do not tell me what I should have done.”

“Lila.”

“And don’t Lila me.”

I almost smile.

She points at me. “You think this is funny?”

“No.”

“You’re smiling.”

“Little bit.”

“You’re insane.”

“Been told.”

She grabs my good hand and pulls me toward the parking lot. I let her. Halfway there, she stops and I nearly walk into her.

She turns around. “Why did he call you that?”

There it is.

I look toward the mountains.

Anywhere but her.

“Dane.”

“Not here.”

Her fingers tighten around mine. I expect her to let go but she doesn’t. “Fine.”

She starts walking again and I follow.

I stopped because Lila asked me to.

And that’s more dangerous than Brody Morgan could ever be.
