“Exactly.”

His expression changes.

I touch his chest. “Do you think that’s why I’m still here?” He doesn’t answer. “Because of the money?” Still nothing. “Look at me.”

He does.

I grab the front of his shirt and kiss him.

Dane freezes.

Then his good hand catches my waist.

For one second, he kisses me back.

Hard.

Hungry.

Then he tears his mouth away. “No.”

My heart pounds. “No?”

“Not like this.”

I grab his shirt again.

“Stop deciding everything for me.”

“Lila.”

“I know what I want.”

“You’re upset.”

“I’m pissed.”

“Exactly.”

“At you.”

“Good.”

“And I still want to kiss you.”

His eyes darken. “That’s a bad combination.”

“I’ve made worse decisions.”

“You married me.”

“Exactly.”

That gets the smallest smile.

I rise onto my toes and kiss him again.
