“I might be a little biased,” she admitted. “It might be because of that big hug he gave me on the tour or that he made the best lion roar. I’m Ms. Jai.” She held her hand out to India. “I’m assuming you’re Mommy. He has your eyes.”
India shook her hand reluctantly. “Yep. I’m Mommy. I didn’t know about the hug.” She glanced down at Baby Jay. “You givin’ away Mommy love, man?”
Baby Jay shook his head.
I already knew what was coming the moment she cut her eyes at me. For the sake of appearances, I ignored it.
“I’m glad you both could make it today,” Ms. Jai continued. “The kids are eating breakfast at the moment. I can take him in, or if you’d like, you can come to the back and drop him off. Whatever you’re comfortable with.”
“I wanna come to the back,” India spoke first. “With it being his first day, I wanna make sure he’s comfortable.”
Ms. Jai nodded. “Absolutely. You all can follow me. You ready, Jamison? And I’m referring to the student, Mr. Sullivan.”
I chuckled. “Oh, aight.”
Baby Jay didn’t respond verbally. He walked to Ms. Jai’s side and put his hand in hers.
“I think he’s ready.” She giggled. “I guess we’ll be the line leaders.”
India flashed a fake smile, and once Ms. Jai turned around, she shot me a hard look.
I mouthed, chill out.
Her eyes turned into slits before she fell in step behind Ms. Jai and Baby Jay. The teacher and our son had completely tuned us out as we walked through the hallways and she pointed out the artwork on the walls to see if he remembered it from the tour. Some he did, others he just ignored. I liked that she didn’t press him about it like she was trying to quiz him. It was a good thing too because by the way India was moving, she was waiting for something to point out that Ms. Jai did wrong.
As we continued through the halls, my eyes dropped to her ass. Although the skirt she wore wasn’t inappropriate for the school setting, the thoughts running through my mind definitely were.
“Stop lookin’ at her ass,” India whispered harshly.
“Stop lookin’ at me,” I whispered back.
“Alright,” Ms. Jai’s voice got both of our attention. “Welcome to my classroom full of superheroes.”
She pushed the door open, and all eyes were on us as we entered.
“Hello, my superheroes. Our new student is here. Can everyone say, ‘good morning, Jamison’ in their inside, gentle voices?”
“Good morning, Jamison,” the kids said in unison.
“Thank you sooo much. Can you say good morning, Jamison?”
“Good morning!” he yelled out.
We all laughed.
“That was great,” she complimented. “Mr. Sullivan, Ms…”
“You can call me India.”
“Perfect. India, this is Ms. K. She’s the Para. She’s in here with me the whole day.”
Ms. K walked over to greet both of us as well as Jamison.
“I can take him to get settled, Ms. Jai,” she offered.
“Yes, please.”
Both me and India went to hand over the bags we packed, and they laughed.
