Charlie slammed the door behind us.
“Hide.”
“What?”
“Hide!”
“Why are we hiding? I thought we were running!”
“Just-”
Footsteps sounded outside.
I grabbed Willow and dragged him behind one of the pews.
We crouched.
I pressed a hand over my mouth, trying desperately to control my breathing.
Willow stared at me.
“What the fuck?”
“Shh.” I whisper with a press of a finger.
“You started this!”
“Shut up.”
Creak.
That’s the sound that the chapel door made.
My smile vanished.
Boots hit the wooden floor.
Slowly.
Thud.
Silence.
Thud.
My heart beat harder.
Willow leaned closer.
“Where is he?”
I shook my head in response.
The footsteps continued down the aisle.
Closer.
Closer.
