That wicked grin was teasing, and I couldn’t help but smile and roll my eyes at him.
I wiggled my fingers in a wave.
He waved back.
That’s when I moved my eyes slightly to the right, and seen Sullivan now looking at me as well.
He looked taller.
And stronger.
Wow, the past year has been good to him.
His black hair was smoothed back, with a small curl escaping the front and resting on his forehead.
The same frown adorned his lips that I have seen for the past few years.
“Rave? Are we almost to dads?”
I snapped out of my stare off and look in the rearview mirror at Ryan in the backseat.
“Yeah, bub. Sorry about that.”
I glanced back at the road, and started the drive again.
Get yourself together, I thought to myself.

An adult.
That goes to college.
That helps support her mother and her little brother.
That works two jobs.
But, I was an adult that took her vacation time at the same time to make sure I didn’t miss coming down here.
Even though I no longer needed to.
But, the fact that Ryan was ten years old, I used that as an excuse as to why I still came.
My relationship with my father was still not all the way repaired, because of how much damage was done, but it was in a better position than it had been.
I also believe that my mom going out and dating, and actually making friends helped me a lot in that way.
Seeing the way she became a shell of herself when the divorce happened broke me. The pain was something that I still felt the ache of.
But, over the past year specifically, she had opened her wings back up.
