When The Fair Goes Dark

The day before….

“What are you going to wear tomorrow night?”

I looked up at Willow as she lounged in my bed on her back staring at a magazine in her hand.

I was on my computer, finishing an assignment that was due before I could start my “summer break”.

“Umm, I think just a romper, like always.”

She sighed.

“I mean, you can make anything look good anyways.” she flips over on her stomach. “I mean, how did you get even more gorgeous than last year?”

I blushed at her compliment and waved my hand behind me in a way to tell her to stop it. I bleached my hair once again, so the white strands appeared even brighter. Letting it grow even longer, I had to watch now because it could get tangled up in doors and even worse, I could sit on it.

Because of reasons I refused to admit, I have taken a liking to doing cardio. You know, to make sure I can walk fast……or run….

For no reason of course.

“I’m done.” I announced as I closed my laptop and moved to sit cross legged on the floor.

I grabbed a bag of chips and directed my attention to the TV playing SAW on it.

“You know what I think?”

“That the SAW franchise is probably the best of all time?” I say back with a crunch of a chip.

She kicked my foot.

“I think tomorrow is going to be the best year yet.”

I raised an eyebrow.

“Why?”

“I don’t know. I just feel it.”

“That’s incredibly specific.”

“Thank you.”

I laughed and reached for another chip.

Outside my window, pretty far away, I could see the faint glow of the fairgrounds in the distance.

Even from here, I could see some of the lights they’d already set up.

Tomorrow night, those lights would change.

The fair during the day.

The haunted carnival at night.

And, I would see him again.

I tried my hardest not to smile.

Willow noticed anyways.
