His jaw tightened again.

“I was there.”

My heart stopped.

“What?”

“I went.”

“Went where?”

“To the place.”

I stared at him.

“What?”

“I was nearby.”

I stared at him dumbfounded by what he was saying.

“You were watching me?”

“Yes.”

My chest tightened.

“Why?”

“Because I wanted to give myself a breather and to see if you’d leave.”

“I didn’t.”

“I know that now.”

“Then what happened?”

He took a slow breath.

“I saw Sebastian.”

I frowned.

“What does that have to do with anything?”

“He knew about the note.”

My stomach dropped.

“How?”

“I don’t know.” he breathed out. “Well, I didn’t at the time.”
