I looked up at Sullivan who nodded his head and set me back in the passenger side.
“I’m right outside. Where are you?” I said as I adjusted my clothing.
“Inside. At the clock.”
“We are coming.”
“We????”
I glanced up at Sullivan.
There was going to be a lot of questions for sure.
He nodded.
“Yes, we. It’s a long story. One that I will need a few hours to go over with you.”
She whooshed out a breath.
“As long as your safe. Now, get your ass over here to tell the nice policemen that you aren’t missing.”
We both get out of the truck.
“Okay.”
I hung up.
I round the truck when he suddenly sets a hand on my arm.
“Raven.”
“What?”
“Before we go over there, just know that the police always have it out for us.”
“Who?”
“Us. The carnival.”
“What, why?”
He looked down into my eyes.
“It’s a long story with a lot of puzzle pieces.”
Instantly I thought about the “talk of the town” or the gossip I heard a while back.
“About the missing people?”
He stood taller.
“You’ve heard about it.”
I nodded. “Yes.”
“It’s not true.”
It was weird because I believed him. I didn’t feel unsafe. I didn’t feel like my life was threatened.
