When The Fair Goes Dark

Page 22

by Lafaye June

Forcing my feet to move forward, I try to be quiet as I walk down the same way I came. The music was loud, but it was ominous.

Like a scary movie or something.

I walk closer to the opening of the area and try to peak my head in a little to see what has changed.

A gasp sounds out and I clamp my mouth to cover it. The heck?

Clowns are everywhere.

Scary looking ones.

Ring master characters.

Zombies.

It was like a horror fantasy or something.

There was fog near the ground, and it only added to the dark and ominous feeling.

Wow.

I couldn’t see anything really else besides people walking everywhere and lines were forming in front of what I guess were the attractions.

The FOMO was real right now.

I needed to leave before I was caught.

I wanted to come back next year, and didn’t want anything to fuck this up.

Leaning back a little, I decide to scale the side of the walls and walk really slowly to the entrance area.

Now, was that smart?

Probably not.

I side step as quick as I could, and I think I’m close to the area of the clearing where the parking lot was.

There was another opening that I had to pass by, and I thought about crawling just to not be seen.

I hear footsteps near where I was.

I stay still.

No sudden movements.

I stay facing the tent as the footsteps stop.

It sounded really close to me.

I move a little to the left.

The footsteps sound.

I pause, my heart rate spiking to high rates.

Footsteps stop.

I was too scared to turn around.
