I got held back a year when I was in first grade.
“See you Mrs. Young.”
I walk towards the door before she calls out for me again.
“Yes?”
“Did I ever tell you how much I loved your new hair?”
I look down at the long locks that were now white blonde.
I just did it the day before yesterday, and the looks I received were conflicting. The girls looked like they hated me, but the guys looked at me with interest.
My mom was obsessed with it, and says I look like a fairy princess or something.
“Thank you, Mrs. Young.”
She smiles at me.
“You look enchanting.”
I smile back at her before thanking her and leaving.
The hallway was pretty much empty, everyone else racing as soon as the bell rang. I had a slower pace to my step because I was going to have to walk home today.
My mom had to work late today, and Ryan was staying with a friend for the first day of summer.
I was in no rush.
Leaving the double doors, my phone pings with an incoming call.
Willow.
“Hello?” I answer as I start walking towards the sidewalk to head home.
“Raveeeeee!! I am so excited to see you boo.” she shouts into the phone.
I cross the street as I laugh into the phone with her.
“I can’t wait!” I yell back at her.
We have been texting almost every single day since I left and came back home. Our friendship was strong as hell, and even though we were only state away, I missed her like crazy.
“When are you heading this way?”
I hear a male in the background, and I assume Justin is there with her.
“Um, we are coming in about a week or so.”
It was June now, our school gets out later, so my dad was coming to get us soon.
“Are you excited?”
I see my house up ahead, and put a little pep in my step to get there.
“I already told you I was girl!”
She giggled.
