When The Fair Goes Dark

I just nod my head.

She presses her fingers to her eyes, and breathes out slowly.

I looked over her shoulder to see Justin had walked away.

I grab her arm. “Hey, it’s going to be okay. I won’t say anything.”

It all made sense with how distant she was being with him, but I just didn’t understand why he was even invited or why she was even talking to him.

She removes her fingers and tilts her curly head back towards the darkening sky.

“Ughhh, I hate myself right now.” she groans out.

“Hey, hey. Don’t say things like that about my friend.” I say.

She looks at me, her eyes clearer than before.

“Thank you Rave. You are literally the best.” she says as she brings me in for a hug.

I hug her back.

“Now, we have some more rides to do before it gets spooky here.” she says and we walk back towards the group.

“THIRTY MINUTES LEFT” the intercom speaker belts out as we walk around the park again.

My heart rate shot up as the excitement races through my body.

“I am so excited! I’ve been doing cardio just for this all year.” Willow says as we get in line for the Gravitron again.

Cardio?

I mean, I have ran from dudes with chainsaws before at a Haunted Woods years ago, so I assume that’s what she means.

As we walked around, I noticed some tents or some entrances were closed, so I assumed those are some of the ones that will be opening here in half an hour.

“We only have time for this last ride before we have to get stamped.” one of Willow’s friends, Terri says next to us.

I stare ahead at the small line in front of us.

Another worker was standing there waiting as we all moved forward.

Justin ended up leaving shortly after the argument earlier, and I haven’t see Sebastian or Samuel around since then.

We all walk in, and right before I am about to go in, the worker stops me.

“Sorry, that’s all for that go.”

Willow stops just right inside. “Wait, I’m sure she can fit somewhere.”

The curly headed worker named Shaun just shook his head.

“Sorry, no more.”

Disappointment rattles me that I didn’t get to go with my group, but I just nod my head and step out of line.

“Wait, Rave. I’m coming out.” Willow says.
