The sound of his boots stop.
I stop as well, because now I didn’t know where he went.
The music continues, the sound of laughing echoing down the same hallway I was just chased down.
My heart was beating out of my chest, and I bent over to put my hands on my knees to catch my breath.
A laugh bubbles out of my throat as I think of how crazy this was. Maybe, he was just being extra scary or really into his acting.
Well, he sure got me.
Sweat trickles at my hair line, and I stand back up to brush my hair out of my face.
Closing my eyes, I exhale two breaths.
Then, my skin prickles.
He was fucking back, wasn’t he?
Peeping my eyes open, a familiar mask stares over my shoulder through one of the mirrors.
My breath catches.
I spin around.
Nothing.
Only another row of mirrors stretching into darkness.
“Okay, what the hell.” I whisper, laughing nervously.
Movement flickered to my left.
There.
The same mask.
The one from last year.
I turned again, this time faster.
Empty.
Nothing.
My pulse kicked harder.
I’d spent a year wondering if I’d see him again, and now that I had. I couldn’t even figure out where he was.
I looked back at the mirror.
Nothing.
The lights flicker.
A hand closes around my wrist.
I gasped as I was pulled backward, my spine meeting something solid.
