“No—,”

“She didn’t love you. She didn’t deserve you,” Nika coos.

I wince at another stabbing pain. A flash of dirt under my nails, pushing myself up from the grass.

“ARRRRGHHH!” I reach out and grab the sides of Nika’s head and twist, snapping her neck. Her body drops to the concrete floor.

“LIV!!! Baby, look at me! WHAT THE FUCK DID YOU DO!!!” Sage shouts.

“I didn’t! I—” I look down at where Nika’s body should be. Only the bloody knife lies at my feet. I frantically look around the room. “What the fuck,” I whisper, throwing my hands to my head and tugging on my hair until it hurts.

I look back down at the empty floor and then back at Olivia.

I didn’t…

I couldn’t…

Something hard presses into the back of my head and then I hear a faint click.

“Don’t fucking move.”

Chapter Twenty-Four

Sage

Terror.

Pure fucking terror.

It tries to claw its way out of my chest as I watch Dorian sprint into the room.

“Jesus,” he hisses. He rushes to Liv, yanks his shirt over his head and presses it to her wound.

“Who the fuck was he talking to?”

“Get me out of this fucking chair, Lorenzo!” I yell at him, not taking my eyes off her.

He jabs his gun harder into the back of Kyle’s head and unsheathes his knife hooked to his belt. Dorian fumbles with his other hand to pull out his phone. Trembling, he brings it to his ear. Lorenzo sidesteps toward me, keeping his aim on Kyle.

“I need an ambulance at pier twenty-six. I have an officer down,” Dorian rushes out.

Lorenzo cuts the zip tie on my left wrist and then I grab the knife from him to cut the other one off. Blood trickles from my stab wound, but not enough to be severe.

“I didn’t—she…” Kyle mumbles.

I vault out of the chair, dragging my injured leg behind me. Gripping Liv’s arm, I cut the plastic restraint. She’s so cold.

“I’m sorry,” she groans, closing her eyes.

After I cut the second, I grab her face. “Don’t you dare.”

Dorian lets his phone drop and uses both hands to try and stop the bleeding. His shirt is already completely saturated.

There's so much blood.

"Baby, open your eyes. I need you to stay with me," I plead, my voice trembling, "Stay with me, baby. Please."

“I should have told you sooner,” Liv whispers, her breathing becoming shallow.
