“Ice, where are you?” I call out

“On our way out. Cole’s guys are taking us through a secret passage.”

This is why I needed Cole A’s team. I didn’t even know there was a secret passage. This is good.

“Good. Take her home. Do not stop.”

“Got it, boss.”

I keep my eyes on the tracker showing Ice, Smith, and Jola.

“Wolfe, anything?” I can’t afford to lose that guy.

“Yeah, James is tailing him. One of Cole A’s guys managed to place a tracker on his car.”

“Perfect.” I turn to Malik. “Is the tracker active?”

“Yes.”

“Malik, I need round the clock monitoring on this guy. I want to know everything about him and who he talks to. He’s our lead to whoever wants Lexi dead.”

I sigh. They haven’t stopped. They’ve been watching her this whole time. I owe Anne for jumping into the spotlight, MAK for planning this event, and Dele and Andrea for the cake and confetti. Her smile was worth the trouble. Now I need to make sure she stays safe and happy.

Ice pings me when they get home. He says Jola has gone to bed. The others will stay until my brothers’ wives are safely home.

“Boss, our mystery guy’s name is Aspen Green. He’s from California. I have pictures of him with Nick, Mr. Lloyd’s half brother.”

“What?” Now we know how they’ve been finding her.

Lloyd’s brother is the one who wants her dead. I turn to Malik. “I need irrefutable evidence that shows Nick is the one behind this. Dig into every aspect of both men.”

“Got it,” he says, nodding.

“I’m heading home. Keep me posted,” I tell Malik. As I leave, part of me is relieved we finally have answers. The similar tattoo on Smith and this guy didn’t give us anything before. Jola is more comfortable around Smith now because he keeps it covered. The only closure I can give her is to eliminate this guy, but it has to be done right. That means removing every threat, not just the messenger.

Chapter fifty-five

Lexi/Jola

I awake to Bruce smacking my ass and nuzzling me. We are happy. I love waking up to him.

“Happy birthday, Jola.” He gently whispers

I smile. I’m officially twenty-seven, happy and still very alive. Last night was so much fun.

“Thank you. When did you get home?” I ask

“You mean the fact you were knocked out before I got home?” He teases

“Yes. And I had so much fun. It’s right there at the top as one of my best birthdays. So thank you, Mr. Darcy.” I cheerfully say

“You’re welcome. What do you want to do today?” He asks getting out of bed

“Chef promised me a cake, and I’m looking forward to eating that and relaxing. I’m all partied out. I just need to call the ladies and thank them. They noticed I was freaking out when the DJ talked about the birthday girl with Cole A, who is a really cool guy, by the way.” I grin. “Anne just said, ‘I got you,’ and told me to turn my back to the lights. They all got me.” I smile at him. I couldn’t believe how quickly they gathered around me to protect me.

“Yes, they all did.”

“Call them and let me know what you want for your birthday.”
