“Don't care,” he said with a shrug. Hammer was standing between them, looking back and forth as though he was watching a tennis match. If Ghost wasn’t so intent on getting Angel to agree with his plan, he’d slug Hurricane for not helping him.

“The police look the other way no matter what they do,” she said.

“We’re used to that,” Ghost said.

“Everyone knows everyone, and they’ll notice us being outsiders—well, you two at least,” she said, looking them both over.

“Sounds charming,” Ghost teased.

“Ghost!” she shouted.

“What?” he asked.

“This isn't funny,” she insisted.

His smile disappeared. “I know it’s not.” He reached into his kutte and pulled out the Polaroid. Angel flinched, and Ghost hated himself for doing it, but she needed to understand. “These motherfuckers got close enough to take this photo.”

“I know,” she breathed.

“They know where you live,” he said. “They know where you slept last night.”

“I know!” Her voice cracked, and Ghost lowered the photograph.

“So we stop running defense,” he said. Angel stared at him. “We go on offense.”

Hammer smiled. “Now you're speaking my language.”

Angel looked between them. “You're both insane.”

“Probably,” Ghost said.

“You can't just ride into Nomad Knights territory,” she insisted.

“Why the hell not?” Ghost asked.

“Because they'll kill you,” she said. Ghost laughed softly, and Angel's face twisted with anger. “Why is that funny?”

“Because everybody thinks they're going to kill me,” he said.

She shoved both hands against his chest, and Ghost didn't move. “I already lost my father because of that club, and I lost Gabriel. I'm not losing you two.” The room went silent, and Angel froze. So did Ghost. Hammer stared at them both.

Angel took a step backward. “I didn't mean—”

“Yes, you did,” Ghost said.

“Ghost—” she started.

“You're scared of losing us,” he said. She looked away, and that did something to him—something dangerous. Ghost had spent years making damn sure nobody needed him because if nobody needed him, nobody could lose him, and he couldn't lose them. Angel had somehow destroyed that system in two fucking days.

He stepped closer. “You're not losing us.”

“You can't promise that,” she said.

“I just did,” Ghost said with a shrug.

“You aren't invincible,” she reminded.

“No, I’m not,” he admitted.
