What pains me is Dustin’s confession about Genevieve. That makes me so sad that she was never found. I can’t even imagine what it was like for my sister when I was missing. She’s all I had at one point in my life. The only person I could depend on.

“I believe you,” I say. “As long as Missy knows she’s messing with the wrong Stiletto if she wants to keep talking trash.”

“We may have to be late for the meeting.” He has a sly grin that can only mean one thing.

“Why?” I ask, though I know the answer.

“Because I’m not nearly done havin’ my fill of you.”

“Dusty!” I scold, knowing we definitely cannot be late. “If you get me all worked up now, you won’t have time to get all your errands done, let alone fuck each other’s brains out.”

He laughs, pinching my chin as I feel the thud in my chest. This man makes me crazy in all the best ways. “How you underestimate me; it’s so cute.”

“I don’t know, I think edging you all day might do the trick.”

He takes my coffee from me, and I know where this is leading. “How about I remind you how edging me isn’t a good idea. I’ve been celibate for the better part of two years, one can’t exactly blame me for⁠—”

“Coming in your pants?” I squeal as he pounces on me.

“Never gonna live that down.” He sighs, planting kisses all over my neck.

“Nope.”

“Looks like my tongue is gonna do all the talkin’ now, baby girl.”

CHAPTER 10

JADE

Before I head downstairs, Star calls me. I pick up immediately.

“Hey sis,” I say, beaming. “How are you doing?”

“I’m good, but you’ve been ignoring my texts.”

Oops. She’s not wrong. I have, and that’s because I’ve been too busy rolling around with Dusty in my bed.

“I’m sorry, I’ve just been busy.”

“Could that have anything to do with your stablehand man?”

My eyes widen. Okay, I have mentioned here or there that I may have had a crush on him, but since Star lives in New Orleans, there was no chance of her embarrassing me by saying something to him.

“He has a name.”

“Dusty, baby.” She laughs. “Don’t tell me you finally made the moves?”

I tuck my hair behind my ear, lowering my voice. “I think I’m in love with him.”

Silence for a second, then she says, “Does he feel the same way?”

I bite my lip, brimming with happiness. “Yes, he does.”

“Thank fuck.” She snorts. “I was worried I was gonna be headin’ over there to fuck him up.”

“No need to do that,” I say with a laugh. “But you’re going to love him when you finally get to meet him.”

I try to see Star as much as possible, especially because of my gorgeous niece and nephew—she and Nevada had twins and they are adorable.
